Mardu Midrange Madness - Budget Edition

Standard*

DubiousKing

A budget version of my Mardu Midrange Madness.

For the sake of wallets everywhere, all planeswalkers were cut and most cards over $15 were replaced with budget options. Butcher of the Horde replaces Brimaz as our main threat and with a larger token-generation suite we can feed him whatever he needs to keep us going. Herald of Anafenza becomes a much, much slower Rabblemaster, but it's a decent mana sink as we reach the midgame as all our answers for the opponent's threats are 3 mana. It also helps feed the Butcher, so that's a plus.

For the times when Butcher does not come online (or he gets shut down) we can become a creature token deck. Spirit Bonds on turn two makes for a great turn three Nyx-Fleece Ram with a spirit buddy. Soul of Theros takes the spot of our Elspeth at 1/14th of the price and can threaten on turn 7 instead of waiting to build up loyalty. Mardu Ascendancy gets us more tokens and protects us against Anger of the Gods when we face other red decks.

The combo of Empty the Pits + Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth is still intact as running a single copy of each is still quite cheap but gives us a great blowout play.
