Ephara, God of the Polis. This is a U/W deck that is based on the fictional locale, the polis of Meletis. First and foremost, I am a theme player. My deck needs to make sense to me. It needs to synergize with the art and story while being competitive enough to not fall apart. This is why I first started collecting the cards back in the Phyrexia- Odyssey days. Enough of that though. How does this deck work?

In your early game, your 1- drops are designed to cheaply augment your creatures or deal with threats. Most of the creature base is 2- drop, so you can start with some mean combos. Aqueous Form is superb for evasion. Aqueous Form+ Battlewise Hoplite are great for Scry. Target the Hoplite, free evasion, free Scry. Unblockable Attack. Scry again.

Ephara's Radiance is primarilly used to trigger heroics. However, when paired with God-Favored General , you can easilly pay for his Inspired ability without loosing him to combat. 2 1/1 Soldiers and 3 Life; don't knock it. 3 Life doesn't seem like much, but it can reward you. Especially in a long game.

Retraction Helix works as a heroic trigger. It does give the option for either offensive or defensive play. Plus, Ajani, Mentor of Heroes isn't going to give 100 Life when I pop him back into hand. (Have I ever mentioned how much I hate planeswalkers? O o)

Your 2-Drop creature basis gives you a bit of an edge. While the creatures are not exactly powerful, you can certainly get them into play quickly.

Battlefield Thaumaturge works well with a few spells in this deck. Glimpse the Sun God , Crypsis , Curse of the Swine , and Hour of Need all benefit from the Thaumaturge.

Artisan of Forms is another great 2-Drop. After triggering heroic, you can begin to torment your opponent with a copy of their own chagrin. Or, if you have Master of Waves in play, you can boost your elementals. Just in case... you never know when Retraction Helix is going to send the Master back to hand for another casting. Or, perhaps you do...

Sage of Hours. This guy is good. I helped my friend develop a combo with him. Sage of Hours+ Hero of Leina Tower +Bioshift. Now, pretend there is a Corpsejack Menace in play... it is bad. But, I'm not a power player; Im a theme player. In this deck, he tries to advance odd turns after Medomai the Ageless grants a free turn. The best card for drawing the counters in this deck is Ephara's Enlightenment . It places a +1/1 counter, heroic adds one more. Play a creature spell. Rinse, repeat.

At your mid-late game, I feature Sphinxes as primary attack and secondary defense. All those 1/1 Soldiers and 2/1 Elementals easily become 4/4 Flying Sphinxes with Hour of Need . Prognostic Sphinx is wonderful for manipulating your next draw. It also has it's own built in protection from spells and abilities.

Arbiter of the Ideal is great as an attacker that "manifests" free cards. Even if it plays a free land, that is a free land that you didn't draw, and you can still play a land as usual. For a defensive variant, try Arbiter of the Ideal + Oracle's Insight . They work amazingly well together.

Medomai the Ageless . Hitting your opponent at every oppurtunity with Medomai is the way to go. As I mentioned earlier, working with 5+ counters Sage of Hours will allow you to Combat with Medomai, next turn, remove all counters from Sage of Hours. Of course, you can't attack again with Medomai nor is it an infinite combo, but I didn't want that. I can make a deck to do that easily, but that just seems like an easy win; I prefer the challenge of play.
