The first block that came out when I started playing Magic was Mirrodin, so you could say I have an...affinity for artifact-based decks.

This one utilizes a fun little interaction between Marchesa, the Black Rose and creatures with the Modular ability, such as Arcbound Fiend. Modular creatures enter the battlefield with +1/+1 counters innately, and they transfer their counters to another artifact creature when they die. Marchesa's ability brings back creatures who had +1/+1 counters on them when they died. And when these Modular creatures come back into play, they'll enter with a fresh set of counters. You can repeat this cycle of death and reanimation until you get creatures big enough to overwhelm the opponents.

We've got a number of Modular creatures new and old in the deck, most of the ones we can play in Grixis colors. We're also running some other 0/0 artifacts who fit the game plan like Hexavus, Threefold Thunderhulk and Iron Apprentice. And we have both Uncivil Unrest as well as Unspeakable Symbol to put counters on any creatures that don't already come into play with them, in addition to Marchesa's Dethrone-granting ability.

The problem is we can't count on our opponents to kill our creatures for us, so we need to take matters into our own hands with some aristocratic effects to sacrifice our Modular boys. Most of these are repeatable, either for ramping (Ashnod's Altar) getting card selection (Viscera Seer) or folding back in on the deck's +1/+1 counter theme (Carrion Feeder). All these sac effects also keep us protected from opponents who get wise and try to exile our stuff, as we can sac our creatures in response to make sure they're sent to the yard where Marchesa can bring them back.

And then we have a few extra bonuses for our main strategy. Warstorm Surge and Flayer of the Hatebound can turn our death-looping creatures into damage against any target. Slagstone Refinery ramps us with every artifact creature we sacrifice. Esoteric Duplicator lets us make copies of our Modular creatures on their way out the door and then Minion Reflector lets us make more copies of them when they walk right back in. And Liquimetal Torque mostly functions as ramp, but in a pinch, can turn one of our few non-artifact creatures (like Marchesa, for instance) into an artifact so they can accept a dying Modular creature's counters.

These arcbound creatures were always some of my favorites back in Mirrodin block, but they also often felt overcosted for their strength. By continually recurring them from the graveyard however, they more than pay for themselves over the course of a commander game.
