WIN-CON: Make Creatures Unblockable with
Slip Through Space
and
Rogue's Passage
. Pump them up with
Titan's Strength
, Uncaged Fury, and Prowess effects. Swing for lethal. And with just a little luck, spread the spells around with
Mirrorwing Dragon
, then swing for super-lethal :-)
ALTERNATE WIN-CON:
Incendiary Flow
to the face, for that last few points of damage.
PREVENT OPPONENT WIN-CONS: Kill Creatures with
Incendiary Flow
; counter anything with
Clash of Wills
; and protect Creatures with Essence Flux.
MOVE TOWARDS THE WIN: Smash with Abbot of Keral Keep,
Elusive Spellfist
, and Stormchaser Mage. Gain card advantage with Scry from
Titan's Strength
, Draw from
Slip Through Space
, and ETB effects from Abbot of Keral Keep, Goblin Dark-Dwellers, and Bedlam Reveler. Pick up extra ETB effects with Essence Flux.
GENERAL VALUE:
Mercurial Geists
is just a great four-drop for this deck.
SIDEBOARD
PLAYTIPS (SO FAR)
- You can play a land card exiled by Abbot of Keral Keep only if you haven't played a land yet that turn.
- Don't forget that
Mercurial Geists
gets a +1/+1 counter from Essence Flux.
- A good hand has a two-drop Creature and the Lands to play it, plus a spell of some sort.
MAYBEBOARD
-
Devour in Flames
,
Fiery Impulse
,
Ravaging Blaze
, Roast, Savage Alliance,
Spreading Flames
, and Tears of Valakut: All kinds of great burn options.
- Elder Deep-Fiend: Great value, if it can survive the Emerge.
-
Eldrazi Obligator
: Superb against Eldrazi Titans and other bombs.
- Fevered Visions: More card advantage.
- Geistblast: So interesting ... I just have to try it out.
-
Ingenious Skaab
and Jori En, Ruin Diver: Great options for (very different) three-drop Creatures.
- Niblis of Frost: Another strong four-drop option.
- Press for Answers and Trail of Evidence: More card advantage.
-
Summary Dismissal
: Generally overkill, but perfect against Emrakul, the Promised End.
-
Talent of the Telepath
: For the mirror match.
- Thing in the Ice
: Great value, if it can survive the Transform. Not quite as strong as it was in SOI Standard, since there are more Horrors now.
GREAT CARDS I'M NOT USING AND WHY
-
Curious Homunculus
: A solid card, but only if I had more two- and three-drop Instants and Sorceries.
-
Dance of the Skywise
: It's a great card, but
Titan's Strength
is better and I don't need five. If you end up playing it though, please note Prowess triggers on cast. So, for example, Dance of the Skywise
+
Elusive Spellfist
→ 5/4 blue Dragon Illusion with flying and can't be blocked this turn.
- Jace, Vryn's Prodigy
: An awesome card , but I don't want to buy any this close to rotation.
- Pyromancer's Goggles: Partly because my five-drop slot is already very crowded, but mostly because ~50% of my Instants and Sorceries are Blue.
- Thermo-Alchemist: Solid in a burn shell, but not good enough for this deck due to the lack of Prowess.
-
Whirler Rogue
: I love her Unblockable ability, but the deck needs Prowess more. If you end up playing her though, please note she can tap Clue tokens for Unblockable too (so she's really nice with Press for Answers and Trail of Evidence).
- Zada, Hedron Grinder: I love Zada, but she's just too fragile :-(
