Our playgroup manages to gather between 4 to 8 people every week for commander night, however at 5 or 6 this often leads to a single massive multiplayer game lasting for the entire night. Long games makes for resilient, consistent, interactive decks to be the most fun to play, as it lets its pilot play politics, stay relevant throughout the game and have a good time for hours without feeling like wasting the night.

As a result, here's my pet deck, a Jenara Bant good stuff, focused on enter the battlefield (EtB) effects from utility creatures, then reusing them by equipping a Sword of Feast and Famine or being sacrificed to Birthing Pod . The deck aims to setup a value engine that can grind out most strategies while keeping them from combo-ing out. The meta is moderately fast and combos end pretty much every game, so the high amount of disruption in the form of cheap counterspells and removal is a must. Most wins will come from blinking Eternal Witness to recur an extra turn card, giving us plenty of time to finish the table.

Important pieces for tutors are Glen Elendra Archmage , Birthing Pod and Skullclamp , although none of those are necessary, they simply help the deck function better.

Our group, while not the most competitive, has a rather high ceiling for our decks budget, thus slow or low impact cards that would otherwise be very fun to play, such as Conjurer's Closet , are kept out of the deck.
