Devoted Druid, the powerhouse the cell. Bout to lay out some next level Zef combos (upvote for obscure reference?):
Devoted Druid
+
Umbral Mantle
+ 1 Mana of any color: A creature with infinite power and toughness, but with just about the same amount of -1/-1 counters. So this accomplished nothing... or did it?
Explanation Show
Equip Umbral Mantle to Devoted Druid (costs 0 to equip). Then tap the Druid for G, untap the druid by adding a -1/-1 counter, tap the druid for another G, add one more colorless mana. You now have enough to untap the Devoted Druid via the ability from Umbral Mantal. The Devoted Druid is now a 2/4 creature with 1 -1/-1 counter. Now you go infinite.
Tap the Druid for G; untap the druid via adding another -1/-1 counter, tap the druid for G (now have GG), untap the druid adding another -1/-1 counter, tap the druid for G (you now have GGG). Pay 3 and untap the druid via the Umbral Mantle's ability.
The Devoted Druid is now a 4/6 creature with 3 -1/-1 counters. repeat the above step for maximum power. Its the powerhouse after all.
The above combo + Flourishing Defenses: We now have infinite Elves. But elfs are dumb, why not go bigger?
Infinite Elves + Soulblast: You get those pesky elves out of your face, plus your opponent gets dead!
Infinite -1/-1 Counters +
Fate Transfer
: Whoops, looks like I have a really healthy creature, and you have a really dead one.
Now that we have an Infinite/Infinite we have a few things we can do.
How to tell someone they lost. Show
Attacking with him wouldn't be fun. That's too ordinary, same with swinging with 18 trillion elves. So what can we do?
Infinite/Infinite Devoted Druid: This one will be really hard to explain. Tap him, put a -1/-1 counter on him to untap, and repeat. Infinite mana, BOOM! But that's boring with a normal hydra, why not one that lets us put whatever we want onto the field??
Genesis Hydra
was made for this deck. Not essential, but helpful.
Infinite/Infinite + Rite of Consumption: Fling, with lifelink! Also this only makes us sacrifice one creature, so we can set up for the combo again (Not like we will ever need to).
But what if my opponent picks up on my combo? Not like they just got decimated by it or anything...
Flourishing Defenses
+
Grim Poppet
+
Grim Poppet
: More infinite elves. Not like we wanted them. You do need one other creature on the field to dump two -1/-1 counters on, but after that just keep adding/removing them from each other.
Dispel: When those pesky control players want to input their own opinion, but cry when they can't.
Dismember: Obvious removal.
Doom Blade: Cheaper than Murder
Dreadbore: Because they haven't 'nerfed' Tibalt.
Pithing Needle: This seemed like an obvious inclusion, just to stop someone else's combo.
I'm looking for a better sideboard, also I might accept some minor changes to the mainboard. Don't forget to upvote if you liked it or if you hated it. Any suggestions are welcome, but I am on a rather strict budget.
