Sometimes when tackling a creative venture, I like to ask questions of the medium. Not things I don't know yet, like "What's the optimal mana curve distribution for a multiplayer deck?" or "What's best in life?", but go right back to the basic assumed information and start drilling holes in it. That's what happened with this deck, I went back and asked "What is Magic?" The answer was something everyone knows: In Magic, you and a friend pretend to be wizards challenging each other in a battle for supremacy. Therein, I found my inspiration: I'm a wizard! I don't really have a deck that makes me feel like I'm a spell-slinging bastion of arcane might, crushing my enemies with my superior intellect, and clearly that is an error in need of a remedy. My mind drifted (as it often does) toward an old archetype that I don't see much any more: Counter Burn. Control what my opponents are capable of, outpace them in card advantage, and when they're out of gas, reduce them to cinders. Around this time, Commander 2015 came out with its enemy colored Commanders dealing in a new mechanic called Experience Counters. So, Mizzix, you're telling me the more I learn, the more powerful my spells become? And casting max-powered spells always helps me learn? Knock, knock, open up the door, it's real! First we play some ROCKS, then we hit a FLOW, then we let her DROP, and they'll all hit the FLO'!
