This (more or less) is a budget deck, utilizing Mizzix's cost reduction ability to generate an infinite/very high amount of mana which in turn is used to kill the entire board with one of our wincons. Due to being the main target once entering the battlefield, relying only on her to win the game is a challenging task. Thus, I decided to add some Mizzix-independent wincons, namely
Isochron Scepter
,
Dramatic Reversal
,
Paradox Engine
, and
Rite of Replication
. These cards (and combinations) are well suited for winning the game even if Mizzix, completely unjustified :), was killed several times, increasing her casting costs to the point where she is too expensive to bring out of the command zone.
How to win:
Muddle the Mixture
->
Merchant Scroll
->
Firemind's Foresight
-> (a)
Reiterate
(b)
Pyretic Ritual
/
Reality Spasm
(c)
Lightning Bolt
Depending on where you start this combo and how many mana you can allocate, 3 to 4 experience counter are necessary. If you start with
Muddle the Mixture
and have 3 experience counter, you'll need . Starting this combo with
Firemind's Foresight
and 4 experience counter requires only .
Isochron Scepter
with
Lightning Bolt
/
Brainstorm
/
Preordain
/
Arcane Denial
/
Shattering Pulse
and
Paradox Engine
and mana rocks
Unlimited damage, card draw, counter spell, and artifact destruction.
Isochron Scepter
with
Snap
and
Paradox Engine
Allows you to control the entire board and may be used to rescue Mizzix.
Isochron Scepter
with
Dramatic Reversal
and mana rocks
Infinite mana that may be used to cast
Blue Sun's Zenith
followed by, for instance,
Fanning the Flames
.
Frantic Search
and
Reiterate
Draw a lot of cards and create a high storm count. If
Guttersnipe
is already on the battlefield, deal a lot of damage :).
Notes:
-
I don't like playing infinite turns and thus do not run cards like
Enter the Infinite
and
Laboratory Maniac
.

Did you know that Mizzix's experience counters interact with the stack. For example, if you have no experience counter yet and cast
Opt
, the stack looks like this (from left to right): counter,
Opt
. You may take advantage of this fact by casting spells of equal CMC and still being rewarded with multiple experience counters. Let's extend our example as follows. You start with
Opt
and cast
Gut Shot
in response. Now the stack looks like this: counter,
Opt
, counter,
Gut Shot
. As you can see, you get two experience counters although you cast two spells with CMC 1. Utilizing this mechanic, you can obtain five experience counters without paying a single mana:
Gitaxian Probe
(pay two life), in response
Gut Shot
(pay two life), in response
Mental Misstep
(pay two life and counter
Gut Shot
), let
Mental Misstep
and
Gitaxian Probe
resolve and take your three experience counters, cast
Tezzeret's Gambit
for free (pay two life) and get another two experience counters.
-
Gilded Lotus
is the perfect mana rock for
Isochron Scepter
with
Dramatic Reversal
or
Isochron Scepter
and
Paradox Engine
, as it generates an infinite amount of mana.
-
Leyline of Anticipation
is an awesome card to cast
Mizzix of the Izmagnus
or
Paradox Engine
at the end of your opponent's turn, minimizing the threat of being destroyed before your next turn. Likewise, it significantly enhances the effect of
Crush of Tentacles
,
Mystic Speculation
, and
Rite of Replication
.
-
Spell Burst
,
Fanning the Flames
, and
Shattering Pulse
are, from my point of view, the best buyback spells for Mizzix. Note that if the target of these spells is removed before they resolve (by bouncing or sacrificing the target), their buyback effect won't trigger and they are put into your graveyard instead back into your hand. Further, to get an experience counter from
Fanning the Flames
, you need to pay . If you do, the damage dealt is n-1 with n being the number of experience counter.
