INTRODUCTION
Well, i have been building and testing this deck for over a year and i might say that it is between a tier 1 and a tier 2 deck. First i will explain the mechanics, then the problems it has with some cards, and finally the replacements for cards. I have to say that i need your help and your opinion so i can progress with the deck specially building the sideboard and maybeboard.
MECHANICS
MANA COMBO
It is a combo deck inspired in other wall combo decks, but in my case i tried to take it to the limit.The combo is based in 2 defenders (i know its risky) Axebane Guardian and Overgrown Battlement.They generate mana based in the number of defenders in play, so you can make an infinite mana combo using the following cards:
-Axebane Guardian + Freed from the Real+ other defender (for example Fog Bank): You have in play Axebane Guardian and Fog Bank then you cast Freed from the Real (you have to enchant Axebane Guardian) and then you tap Axebane Guardian for 2 mana, you put 1 mana in your mana pool and with the other you activate the second ability of Freed from the Real, then you tap Axebane Guardian and repeat the proces for infinite mana.
-Axebane Guardian or Overgrown Battlement + Umbral Mantle + other 3 defenders: you do the same process but you have to have more defenders.
-Axebane Guardian or Overgrown Battlement + Staff of Domination+ other 4 defenders: again you do the same process.
TUTOR
Drift of Phantasms can be used as a tutor to obtain Axebane Guardian , Freed from the Real , Phyrexian Unlife , Beast Within, Staff of Domination or Umbral Mantle to obtain the combo.
HOW TO WIN
You can win through 2 ways:
Combo n1 or combo n2 + Assault Formation: you can create creatures with infinite thoughness and attack with the thoughness.
Combo n1 + Banefire: you pruduce infinite damage.
Any combo + Staff of Domination: You can draw any amount of cards, so you have to get to Banefire, Fungal Reaches (to have a red mana), and Beast Within (if there is any problem like Platinum Angel, and then you do do infinite damage.
OTHER COMBOS
-Phyrexian Unlife + Tree of Redemption: You are kind of indestructible if your opponent is attacking your life, every turn you put yourself up to 13 life and if you read the Phyrexian Unlife rules, it says that the poisoning effect will do damage only if you have 0 or less life so suppose you are at 2 life and a creature with 3 power attacks you, you will have -1 life and then the poisoning will start to take effect.
-Tree of Redemption + Infinite combo n2: First you create infinite mana, then you tap Tree of Redemption, then you equip it with Umbral Mantle and untap, then you tap Tree of Redemption again but this time you will have 2 more thoughness, if you repeat this process infinite times, you will have infinite life.
PROBLEMS:
There are very few win conditions, Collected Company doesnt work well, Axebane Guardian has only 3 thoughness (it can be reached by a Lightning Bolt, almost all of the creatures cost 2 mana and it can be very painfull, its very easy to stop the combo, you just have to get rid of Axebane Guardian and Overgrown Battlement, etc.I can describe some replacements for some cards:
-Collected Company, Tree of Redemption or Fog Bank: Ludevic's Test Subject
, Wall of Omens or card:Order of the Starts
-Phyrexian Unlife: Ensnaring Bridge
