[Modern] Post-DMU Merfolk

Modern Merfolk UB (Dimir)

GerryAvalanche

Sideboard

Build with the all new Vodalian Hexcatcher. It plays more one drops than the traditional lists to feed to Hexcatcher and potentially later exile for Skaab Ruinator.

- 4x Rishadan Dockhand for 8 one-drops in the main. Dan is pretty strong in a specific spot: t1/t2 on the play. Now with the Catcher constantly deploying one-drops to feed into its ability later, while simultaneously applying pressure seems like a very decent strategy. We cut two Silvergill Adept to make space for them.
- 1x Skaab Ruinator to close out the top end. Big beater with flying that synergizes with our sacced fishies. It also is a great pitch to Benthic Biomancer's adapt and evoking Subtlety directly feeds into recurring Ruinator as well.
- 1x March of Swirling Mist is a versatile spell, that can either protect a few of our own creatures or can get rid of a big blocker when swinging for lethal

Suggestions

Updates Add

  • Cutting two Silvergill Adept in favor of two more Rishadan Dockhand. The gills are just not really doing as much as they used to and for now I value building up a board for less mana and more consistently in the first turns higher than the card advantage the Adept provides.
  • Switching 2x Dismember and 2x Subtlety to be prepared for more matchups game one.
  • Switching 1x Vodalian Hexcatcher for 1x Lord of Atlantis: with all the pressure we apply now I want to have more islandwalk lords and 3 Hexcatchers are probaly still going to be consistent enough
  • Mizzium Skin and March of Swirling Mist both perform well. I would like to play two of one or the other, but it's too early to make a definitive call yet.
