Planeswalker (1)

Jund, Abzan, Sultai: The three decks which utilize both green, black, and a third color. While jund and abzan (but mostly Jund) may spend more time in the spotlight, I believe that sultai midrange too has its own power. The inclusion of blue gives us access to numerous cards that further push the power of a G/B/X midrange deck in modern. Jace, Vryn's Prodigy   and Thought Scour let us loot and power up our Tarmogoyfs, Serum Visions draws us cards, and Snapcaster Mage provides a second use of many important spells.

In light of the death of the "boomer" midrange decks of modern, this deck mostly exists as a shrine to a pre Modern Horizons modern format. I have continued to update the deck as new cards have come about, but the B/G based midrange decks of the past are certainly no longer the peak of the modern format.

Recent Changes:

MB; -2 Opt -1 Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet -1 Jace, the Mind Sculptor +2 Thoughtseize +1 Grist, the Hunger Tide +1 Dauthi Voidwalker

SB; -1 Prowling Serpopard -1 Thrun, the Last Troll +1 Endurance +1 Force of Vigor

I'd quite like to make it clear why am I playing the cards that I am playing.

Mishra's Bauble, Thought Scour, and Serum Visions act as my main sources of card advantage. Bauble and Thought scour both let me get more kinds of card types in my graveyard. Serum visions is just a good card.

Abrupt Decay, Fatal Push, and Maelstrom Pulse all act as my reactive removal. Fatal push and Abrupt decay kill most big threats in modern. The 1x Maelstrom Pulse acts as a main board way of dealing with a tricky permanent in game 1.

Thoughtseize, Inquisition of Kozilek, and to a lesser extent Collective Brutality act as my proactive removal. I've found that a 3-2 split in favor of Inquisition is working the best for me right now. Brutality is a nice value card that does more work than it has any right to.

Tasigur, the Golden Fang, Tarmogoyf, and Grim Flayer are the deck's payload. Getting even just one or two of these guys down is the primary way this deck wins.

Snapcaster Mage and Jace, Vryn's Prodigy   are great value creatures in this kind of deck. They get some work done and both allow me to get extra value from my graveyard.

Both Lilianas are run in order to get around Pithing Needle. I run Hissing Quagmire and Creeping Tar Pit together to get around Pithing Needle as well.
