It's been a long day since I built you my friend.

Since the first draft I've made many changes to the theme and the structure of this bad boy.

Why Mogis

The main idea is pretty simple: Mogis is the god of the Rakdos guild, the objective is not to win, is to inflict pain to the other players and make their decks a lot more difficult to play. That's why I tried to avoid including cards that focus on "every player" target, I know that this mechaninc is more rakdos themed, but still, Mogis is a God, he doesnt want to hurt himself. Only if striclty necessary.

PLAYING MOGIS

How to win

Winning will not be easy, this deck will draw a lot of attention due to its hate towards others so prepare to lose many games, just remember that losing doesn't mean not having fun.

Causing pain is good, but winning is still better so I've included some combos in the deck, which are:

  • Exquisite Blood + Sanguine Bond pretty self-explainatory combo, just need a cause to trigger it (something that causes lifeloss), Mogis himself for example

  • Havoc Festival + Wound Reflection Havoc festival was one fo those card I didn't include at first because it targeted also myself, but this is such a good combination. Also this, pretty self-explainatory.

At the moment in this deck there is at least another combo Tree of Perdition + Triskaidekaphobia but since I would like to run zero creatures (or very very few) I think I'm going to set them both aside, considering also that they only interact with each other basically. Having only the enchantment on the battlefield doesn't serve any purpose, you always need the tree, and because it's a creature is more likely to be removed. The decision of not using creatures has caused a significant drop in combo possibilites (previously I had a bunch related to Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker) so right now I don't have many more ideas for combo options, without taking in consideration super-crazy artifacts or too pricy cards.

Another way to win is just let the opponents slowly (or not so slowly) die. Cards like Bloodchief Ascension or Painful Quandary are among the ones that help you the most. Mogis himself can cause a lot of trouble if he's left unchecked (7 commader dmg every turn is not bad)

Card Draw

Thanks to the color card draw is safely good enough. Cards like Greed and Phyrexian Arena are undoubtely good, and also stuff life Sign in Blood, Night's Whisper, Ancient Craving, Read the Bones help maintaining a good amount of cards in hand. Tutors should not be included in this category but in some ways they can fix your hand and help you get what you need, which ultimately is the goal of card drawing. Early game stones like Commander's Sphere give you mana, but in the late game can be converted to draw the perfect finisher. Another cards that helps in this mechanic is Theater of Horrors it doesnt make you draw cards, but it's actually better, the cards exiled with it are immune to discards effects, you can basically play them every turn (an opponent must lose life but this should be common). The drawback is that if the enchatment is destroyed you lose every card exiled with it, be ware.

Handling Mana

This is a problem, since I don't have the budget to affford stuff like Cabal Coffers, sometimes gathering mana gets pretty difficult. In the starting hand there should be atleast 2 or 3 lands and 1 mana artifact otherwise things get tricky: starting off with a good mana base on board and ready to drop Mogis or a low CMC ench is very important. That's why I included many mana artifacts, the only one I'm considering to leave out is Rakdos Cluestone, it costs 3 mana and for 2 mana and sacrificing it draw a card, too much for something I get easly whit Mind Stone for example. Something I might consider adding is Black Market: there's going to be many creatures going to the graveyard so this should work.

OUTs

This is the hardest part, making room for new cards. The already mentioned Tree of Perdition, Triskaidekaphobia and Rakdos Cluestone will be followed by:

  • Captive Audience I like it, but it's more chaos based. I like chaos, but here I prefer to inflict damage directly, also it's 7 mana, a bit too much in my opinion: for the same amount I bet there's something more evil

  • Hissing Miasma just because it will be replaced by something better

  • Mana Geode it simply isn't so good but at the moment that's what I have

  • Tibalt, Rakish Instigator I have it lying around and I got tempted to add it in the deck. Not very proud of it

  • Blood Reckoning good one, but not so good. I really don't like it's price: 4 mana is too much for 1 damage

  • Curse of Bloodletting, I mean, in 1vs1 is the best but I'll never play this deck in 1vs1, and in multiplayer I don't want to decide who's gonna be nuked the most. Mogis is a just fella: everyone gets kicked, no matter what

  • Accursed Witch   same problem as before and in addition is a creature, so... Sayonara

  • Ob Nixilis Reignited 5 mana to draw a card and lose 1 life, not so bueno

  • Blasphemous Act I have one of those in every red deck basically, so for this one I want to find something more creative. With all these stax including too many wraths is not worth the space

  • Crux of Fate same as before, there's gotta be something more fun to play then a lazy generic wrath (see below)

  • Vandalblast similarly to Blaphemous Act I have one of those in every deck that runs red. It's the only card that serves the purpose of destroying artifact, one out of 99 cards. I'm not saying it's useless (there are many tutors) but ths deck will be used only in multiplayer, if there are some nasty artifacts someone else will take care of them.

  • Tattered Mummy when it dies, 2 damage to each opponent is good but since I don't want many creatures this oughta go

  • Loyal Subordinate I'm really fond of this card but space needs to be made. The only friend worth of Mogis is Erebos, God of the Dead

INs

  • There are some mechanics that I'm considering to implement, like card drawing and discarding, or: punishing opponents who draw too many cards (which is something that in my META happens pretty often). So cards like Liliana's Caress (which would work amazingly good with Pain Magnification), Oppression, Spiteful Visions look pretty good.

  • Another thing I think it's worth working on is land taxing: since this is red and black deck you wont play tons of lands, at least compared to more greenish decks. Also in my META it's very common that in one game one player, if not more, ramps like hell. Punishing them sounds very fair to me: at the moment there isn't any card that punishes exactly for playing too many lands, some nice additions might be Ankh of Mishra, Manabarbs, Burning Earth, Acidic Soil, Polluted Bonds, Burning Sands which also favours this decks since there are no creatures (almost). Last mention in this category is Blood Moon, not a tax and not exactly a punishment either, but many decks wont love this cards.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Mindcrank is something I really would like to add as soon as possible. Milling is not a theme I considered seriously for this deck but causing damage and possibly milling so much sounds veeeeery nice to me. Related to that I should consider something to exile graveyards, I think that it's both important giving hate to the board and six-feet-under.

  • Killing Wave might be a very good addition expecially against decks who like to play with tokens or many creatures. Also because is not the same generic wrath

  • Revel in Riches I don't count on winning with this card but I bet it's worth including. It's going to work pretty well with cards like Lethal Vapors, Innocent Blood, Killing Wave, Black Sun's Zenith, Tyrant's Choice, No Mercy. And the wincon might be helped through other player's boardwipes

  • Crystal Chimes is the only artifact (the only card in general actually) that lets me bring something back from the grave, so considering all the tutors I run in this deck, this might be a nice addition

  • Dark Ritual having some extra mana to spend early on and dropping something that the other players are not expecting it's going to be super nice

  • Repercussion why not?

"Why not This Card or That Card?"

Before finishing, I want to say why I excluded some cards that might look like very obvious addtions. Stuff like Sulfuric Vortex or Everlasting Torment are nice cards but they wont let me gain life and because of that they break the first wincon-combo I mentioned. Also, I like gaining life. As you might have seen, in this list there aren't many instants: nothing special here, that's just a personal decision, I have other decks where I run many instants and here I wanted something without them, or just very few. The same goes for creatures but I already said it.

So this is basically it. Do you agree with what I've written? Let me know!

I'd love to get some tips, just know that my budget is not so high, so that's why cards like No Mercy are still in the maybeboard since 2017.

Thanks a lot for reading and have a good day!
