This is my Modern build of my old Standard Mono Black lifegain deck I used at FNM 10 years ago during Scars Block (featuring Vampire Nighthawk and Lashwrithe).

Modern FNM 8/16/13 - 3-1, Top 4 — Aug. 17, 2013

Round 1: Green/White Tokens. Nothing too crazy here, won 2-0 fairly quickly.

Round 2: Gifts Ungiven: Won 2-1, Crusader really came through game one. Game 2 I realized that I sideboarded in Wrench Minds, and played one when I without thinking about the consequences, allowing him to discard Iona... Won game 3 relatively easily though.

Round 3: Tron: Lost 1-2, Did very well game 1, game 2 he eventually got a lock on me, and game 3 I got him down to 1 life with an 8/8 Vault Skirge and had I top decked a swamp instead (making it a 9/9) I would have won game 3.

Round 4: Jund: Won 2-1. It turns out that this is a very good matchup for me, the Inquisitions and creature destruction (especially Infest) work quite well, and Phyrexian Crusader is pro-red, which helps.
