Versatility.
Power.
Efficiency.
Control.
These are the facets of Mono Blue Tron. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the archetype, a quick introduction: Mono Blue Tron seeks to assemble at least one copy each of Urza's Mine, Urza's Power Plant, and Urza's Tower (to be tutored up with Expedition Map. However, unlike our more aggressive and combo-oriented Tron compatriots (Eldrazi and Green; respectively), we seek to control the game. To achieve this, we wield an arsenal of specially modified countermagic and removal spells in Condescend, Repeal, Spell Burst, Remand, Aether Spellbomb, Oblivion Stone, Ugin, the Spirit Dragon, Walking Ballista and Supreme Will. However, we can also function as a midrange deck with our arsenal of threat-answers. First of all, this deck displays an extraordinary amount of card advantage via Thirst for Knowledge and its Planeswalkers. Karn, Scion of Urza draws us cards and can produce us powerful blockers or win-conditions, while Karn, the Great Creator allows us access to a vast network of conditional answers and threats to get us out of practically any pinch. In a similar vein, the copies of these powerful spells that are actually in our mainboard can be accessed via Treasure Mage.
But what are these haymakers? Our wincons consist of Walking Ballista against aggro and overeager Death's Shadow opponents, Mindslaver as our go-to late game combo with Academy Ruins, Wurmcoil Engine against creature decks and Burn, Platinum Angel against removal-light combo decks, Sundering Titan against anyone with a greedy mana base (especially control decks), or Ugin, the Spirit Dragon for whenever you're feeling spicy. Notably, most of these wincons or artifact-based answers can be recurred through Academy Ruins-but wait, Field of Ruin + friends got your tongue? Just Karn up a Crucible of Worlds! (Also handy for Ghost Quarter-locking somebody!)
Finally, we've also got some additional ramp and value in the form of Talisman of Dominance and Solemn Simulacrum, helping us gain incremental advantages that can grind out the game in our favor. As the Professor says, this archetype is not designed to win you the game quickly. Its intricate nuances will help you establish "precise, almost clockwork control"-and hopefully, the power of Urza + friends will see you to victory. Thanks for reading!
