To summarise the deck in ten words or less, would be unnecessary, as it is possible to describe it in three.
Fast. Powerful. Relentless.
The deck is designed to be able to withstand a range of tactics whilst providing its own much needed force. I took inspiration from decks similar to Naya Blitz, where every card was used effectively and never dragged down the overall capability of the rest of the cards. Below is a list of all the cards and a basic description of what they are capable of...
Creatures
This card is unstoppable. I don't mean this literally because there are many ways to get rid of it. I meant this in the sense that when it enters the battlefield, it is an immediate threat to the opponent. It is a 6/6 with reach which only costs 5 mana to cast, and and is able to become monstrous. Aside from its main features, the card adds 3 to my devotion, which is incredibly helpful when I want to play
Reverent Hunter
or ramp up to a super powerful Mistcutter Hydra using Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. Overall, a pretty great card in my opinion...
Boon Satyr can be a 4/2 at the worst of times and a devastating tidal wave of destruction at best (slightly exaggerating). Because it has flash, it adds a whole lot of new strategies to the deck. In particular, it enables me to block a creature where I would have been defenseless and prevent combat damage (if possible, kill the creature). But because it has bestow I am to buff up my creatures at the last moment for a reasonably low cost, and activate Heroic for
Centaur Battlemaster
...
It may not look like much, I mean, costs 5 mana for a 3/3?! But, then again, read the text and you will see the true potential of it. I can usually activate Heroic very easily using cheap cards such as Warriors' Lesson and
Ordeal of Nylea
. And then, when the opponent isn't expecting it, trigger it using Boon Stayr's bestow...
As you can see, this is the main focus of the deck. I truly believe this to be one of my favourite cards in Theros because of its incredible potential to cause havoc on the battlefield, especially when versing blue. It has haste and is able to attack immediately, and if I want to, I could simply buff it up again or give it trample using Nylea, God of the Hunt. And the artwork, dear god the artwork...
Any one of the gods would be helpful in this deck as they provide immediate buffs to all of my creatures. But for this deck, Nylea, God of the Hunt is without a doubt my best option. It can very easily become an indestructible 6/6 if my devotion is large enough, and gives my creatures trample, which is especially lethal when I have cards like Mistcutter Hydra and
Centaur Battlemaster
available at the time...
Whilst the card is not particularly popular at the moment, it can become monstrous when my devotion is large enough. The best part its mana cost is counted towards my devotion so it never becomes a 1/1. If the game is proceeding smoothly, I will very efficiently be able to make
Reverent Hunter
a 5/5 at the bare minimum by turn 5. This is because of cards like
Arbor Colossus
and
Centaur Battlemaster
which add a ridiculous amount towards my devotion...
Its a 1/1 with deathtouch and can be played on turn one without. I see no reason not to put this in my deck...
This creatures is probably one of the only cards in my deck which adds a safe foundation to build upon. It can be tapped for any colour mana, let alone green, has hexproof, and is a useful defender. By turn three, I aim to have both this card and
Sedge Scorpion
on the battlefield to provide a clear threat to the opponent, as both cards are difficult to get rid of without losing anything half decent...
Instants
Whilst it is the only instant in the deck, its significance is a vital contribution to the deck and is important for many of my combo's which I rely upon. For starters, it is green card draw, which is always amazing, and is able to target two of my creature no less. Being able to activate
Centaur Battlemaster
's at any given time is pretty sensational, especially if I have two of them out on the battlefield...
Enchantments
The Bow is pretty amazing in my opinion because I am able to give all of my attacking creatures deathtouch for the cost of three mana, and has four decent abilities to choose from every turn. The best part is that it adds two to devotion to green, which is perfect if I want Nylea, God of Hunt to become a creature, or if I want
Reverent Hunter
to enter the battlefield with two additional +1/+1 counters...
This card is great for any situation because I can reliably put +1/+1 counters on creatures I control, activate Heroic for
Centaur Battlemaster
, and trigger its sacrifce ability instantly if I control a Mistcutter Hydra with three counters or more on it. Overall, it is a fairly useful card with good flexibility in situations...
Sorcery
Whenever I feel as though I will not have enough creatures in my hand, or if I want to draw cards like Bow of Nylea and
Ordeal of Nylea
, I can always rely on this card to help the situation. Using it early game is also pretty powerful as it can help me increase the number of strategies available to me at any one time...
Green Removal? Yes. Whilst it may not be the perfect form of removal, it is still pretty great at getting rid of threats, especially if I have
Centaur Battlemaster
out, which benefits from being targeted by activating Heroic. It also gives me three life, which is a plus...
Land
This card was a must in this deck, solely because it can generate a ridiculously large of mana if my devotion to green is large enough. This can be pretty easily achieved with cards like
Arbor Colossus
,
Centaur Battlemaster
and Bow of Nylea. And when my mana base is large, I am able to summon an incredibly powerful Mistcutter Hydra and attack with it immediately...
