Moving towards Rabble Red simply because Rabblemaster just looks better than devotion, but that's debatable. Thoughts?
Creatures (32):
My creatures are the backbone of the deck, let's break it down.
Rakdos Cackler: Good early beater, can block early attackers (it's helped against intimidate on occasion) and is a 2/2 for 1 almost all the time.
Frenzied Goblin
: This spot used to be occupied by
Firefist Striker
, and as much as I don't like paying mana during combat to use his ability, he does essentially the same thing for less mana and I don't need 3 creatures.
Foundry Street Denizen
: More powerful than it looks, dropping it on turn 1 into a turn 2 Ash Zealot gets four damage in early and helps against early blockers, particularly Sylvan Caryatid. With Goblin Rabblemaster it could potentially be bonkers, becoming a 2/1 or 3/1 each turn.
Ash Zealot: Hasty two damage and helps devotion, when this was a mono red devotion deck. He still helps getting damage in early and the first strike is off putting for the opponent in combat.
Burning-Tree Emissary: The one and only all star, particularly for devotion, but I can see it still helping greatly in this new version. turn 3 BTE into Rabblemaster seems pretty tasty.
Eidolon of the Great Revel: Makes opponents think twice about casting spells and makes it a race. "Pass turn" is a popular phrase I'm starting to hear.
Goblin Rabblemaster: Newbie to the deck, but after watching him this weekend at events, he seems to be the future of mono-red and can certainly shine in this deck. He is definitely something that has to be answered fast (as my team continues to beat away at you).
Chandra's Phoenix: Was excellent in devotion and will still be excellent here. Great evasion creature.
Fanatic of Mogis: Used to be the focus of the deck, often able to do anywhere from 5-10 damage to the opponent's face typically. He still has a place in the deck, I may revert back to him if Rabblemaster doesn't work out, time will tell.
Instants (8):
Lightning Strike
: Your standard burn spell. Good creature removal. Sided out for
Searing Blood
often.
Magma Jet: Scry is great.
Lands (20):
Mountain: 21 or 20 lands?
Sideboard (15):
Anger of the Gods: Think I might go with 2-of here and remove the Reckoner, it should be helpful in the mirror, Mono black and blue devotion. Swap with Phoenix(???)
Boros Reckoner: Standard devotion beatdown card
Chandra's Phoenix: Mainboard playable, swap with fanatic maybe?
Chandra's Pyromaster: Mainboard playable and a powerful combat trick, almost got a chance to use the ultimate during last fnm. Swap with Fanatic.
Mizzium Mortars
: Handles big stuff, swap with Lightning Strike against mono green usually.
Pithing Needle: Never side boarded this in yet, I imagine I will have to against Planeswalkers
Searing Blood
: Amazing in mirror, side in against any heavy creature play. Replace Lightning Strike
Skullcrack: Bring in against Control, remove Lightning Strike likely.
