The goal of this deck is to drain your opponents life quickly while hopefully giving you enough life to withstand various attacks to really take people out. In most games, you do not need to attack to win which can be beneficial against certain decks. Additionally, try to avoid blocking with creatures who have extort; instead use the 1-drops as chump blocks if you are realy in a pinch otherwise take the damage as you will most likely gain it back.
In games with more than one opponent, the more the merrier as extortion applies to each opponent.
To make this deck effective you are going to need mana. Getting land out as well as
Crypt Ghast
is going to help with this.
Early on, try to get
Basilica Screecher
and
Thrull Parasite
out sooner than later so you can start extorting. The 1-drops are in the deck to help facilitate the extortion triggers.
Once
Crypt Ghast
and
Pontiff of Blight
are out, you can really start hammering the extortion triggers. The Pontiff adds an additional extortion trigger to all creatures; creatures can have multiple instances of extort and they trigger separately.
Backup Plan: Exquisite Blood + Sanguine Bond
Use this perpetual combo to kill your opponents 1 point of life at a time perpetually. If both cards are in play, an opponent losing life or you gaining life will trigger the combo. If you can only play one of the cards, go for
Sanguine Bond
as this will compliment the extortion triggers.
Some notes on the extortion triggers:
- When a creature with extort is cast, it does not trigger its own extort trigger as the card has not resolved yet
- Extort triggers are added to the stack when you cast a spell regardless if that spell resolves
- Each extortion trigger must be paid for so it can resolve
