Maybeboard

Muldrotha's world is buried 6 feet under! Destroy the board and laugh as your graveyard becomes your hand.

This deck has its roots in my previous iteration of this kind of playstyle, Muldrotha: Budget Elemental Tribe!. The reason this has become a separate deck list is that as more performant choices are made, the less thematic this particular tribe becomes.

This deck looks to build itself up while knocking others down, eventually becoming an unmanageable graveyard monstrosity that swings for tons of flying/trample damage.

Updates

Here is where the updates to the deck will go as it develops.

Early game this deck is looking to do two things; Feed the graveyard and get Muldrotha on the board. However Muldrotha doesn't want to get on the board naked as a newborn baby, so when we are ready to cast her she also needs some kind of protection. This realistically will be turn 6-8 this happens.

Midgame we need to be thinking "How many nukes can I throw?" and start prepping the warheads. Disk, Deed, and even Vona's Hunger can all be played over and over to keep the field a barren wasteland. Any excess protection needs to be on creatures who also need to survive the blasts.

Endgame we are looking to send out creatures that benefit from the graveyards being full to death horrific amounts of combat damage. We can also utilize sneaky tricks like Altar of Dementia to burn out the libraries of opponents.

Pros

  • Widespread field destruction gains more utility as the number of players goes up
  • Despite being tri-color the mana fixing ends up being pretty good
  • The relatively even distribution of non-creature, non-land permanents means Muldrotha should always have multiple items to fish.

Cons

  • Nonbasic land hate is going to give you a no-good-very-bad day.
  • Graveyard hate is going to give you a no-good-very-bad day.
  • A crafty opponent can "lock out" Muldrotha by forcing her into resurrecting reactively. A loop I've experienced is having to resurrect Spore Frog multiple times while I hunt for card draw or other means of graveyard resurrection.

The first major update since deck publishing! After a few games I've noticed that I'm missing the ability to deliver a knockout blow. To that end, Titania, Gaea Incarnate     was an attractive option. I already have a fair number of protection options for Muldrotha, so it was easy to justify including a bruiser. Other adjustments include Counterspell and Remand to help bounce spells that I don't like.

Special thanks to multimedia who has been a guiding light in my development and understanding of MTG.

Updates Add

Muldrotha, the Gravetide vs Muldrotha vs Lathril, Blade of the Elves vs Someone I didn't catch the name of since they were never played.

Our Muldrotha came in 3rd after Lathril came out swinging with Craterhoof Behemoth and Unnatural Growth for 56 trample damage. I was stuck at 4 lands when I needed 5 with the hand I drew, so in retrospect maybe I should have mulliganed. The other Muldrotha hilariously fielded a Mox Diamond and a few other pricy cards. However my opponent wasn't able to protect her and I was consistently able to push her off the deck while protecting my own using exile spells.

Thoughts:

  • Ran weak on blue mana this game when I needed it early. Analytics say cost/production is real close so I might need to sub in something like Underground River

  • I'm at 2.72 CMC and moderately heavy on 2 drop cards while evenly split on 3-4 CMC spells. Are there essential 3 CMC cards to even out my mana curve? Is this a problem?

  • I ran into a situation where my graveyard was exiled. Don't like that! I might need to look if there are cards to pull my graveyard in.

  • I'm thinking about putting in Titania, Voice of Gaea  Meld and Argoth, Sanctum of Nature  Meld to meld into Titania, Gaea Incarnate  Meld  Meld and get some life kicked in to help Muldrotha with Glacial Chasm.

  • I want to reflect of if I need a splash of life gain cards. If I can find something that allows me to gain life whenever someone sacrifices a creature, I would be super interested.

Thanks for reading!
