My Take on the (in my opinion) Under-played Guild of Simic!
Ever since I pulled a Koira from a booster at the Born of the Gods pre-release I've been playing Simic every FNM, building and developing my deck.
It's certainly Evolved (lol) Quite a bit since when I started, from being massive ramp with Kiora's Followers abusing Market Festivals for massive Aqueous Formed Heroes' Banes to trying to play control flashing AEtherlings with Prophet of Kruphix at the end of their turn for the win.the Atherling's were great but my deck had become mega confused, it had all this other stuff that just became redundant once AEtherling hit the board and everyone kept telling me to throw white in the mix to play bant control. It seemed like a great idea but then the price of cards like Sphinx's Revelation, Detention Sphere and Elspeth, Sun's Champion hit me, and the fact that half of it all is rotating out soon I decided I would stick with Simic and try to make something competitive out of it (:
Here is what I have got so Far-
CREATURES-
Elvish Mystic - simple effective ramp. Makes early game big creatures all the more possible, blocker in an emergency, and actually helps get Illusory Angel out, being the first spell cast.
Sylvan Caryatid - Insane card. Ramp, Mana fixing, 0/3 body, and Survives Doomblade yo.
Courser of Kruphix - Another Must for Green, this guy is a great 4 toughness body, lets you see what's coming (eg. for a Genesis Hydra to pull out), pulls lands from your draw, and gives that little bit of life. giving so much for only 1GG.
Illusory Angel - I think this guy is cool, Really cheap for a 4/4 flyer. plus you can Chord of Calling it, or play it Turn 3 after a Mystic. What's even cooler is when Genesis Hydra pulls it out. I think this is one of the weaker of my choices, and I'm Considering Hornet Nest or maybe Chasm Skulker instead.. Ideas Much Welcome! (:
Polukranos, World Eater - This guy..
Hydra Broodmaster - Massive dude, you can pump mana into later.
Prophet of Kruphix - Also a guy. Lets you do everything you ever wanted.
Kruphix, God of Horizons - Not to hard to get active with the high creature count in the deck, plus throwing mana on him every turn with Prophet of Kruphix out leads to great shinanigans. Thing to remember is if he dies, you still have till the end of turn to spend the big pile of mana hes sitting on ;)
Genesis Hydra - I reckon he has potential, especially as his ability triggers as you cast him, not as he enters. pulling out a Polukranos, World Eater is great fun. good mana sink.
Prime Speaker Zegana - With all the fatties in this deck, she never fails to draw you a new hand. Activates Kruphix, God of Horizons almost every time. thinking about taking this out for Archetype of Imagination, because WTF flying 9/9 Krakens. (Kiora, the Crashing Wave)
NON CREATURES
Nissa, Worldwaker - Really crazy Planeswalker, newly added, replacing Kiora, the Crashing Wave. with all the forests in the deck she should do very well. also with half the lands being non basic, her ultimate will never put my entire land base at risk even if I go and find all my basics and put them on the field.
Cyclonic Rift - Nonland Permanent Removal.Overload in their end step so they can't re-cast their creatures (I think that's the way it works, correct me if I'm Wrong) Then Swing for the win. Great Card.
Chord of Calling - this is a new Addition, But with plenty of choices to pull out, and lots of creatures for Convoke I think it will be awesome.
SIDEBOARD -
Aerherize - Suprisingly handy in some situations, But I'm thinking of putting Polymorphist's Jest in this slot instead to help deal with other aggro-tempo fatties decks.
Unravel the Aether - Excellent Enchantment/Artifact Removal. Very relevant with all the new M15 Artifacts.
Mistcutter Hydra - Excellent mana sink that rapes blue.
Simic Charm - Awesome counter-removal while retaining some instant speed bounce capability.
Negate - For Control matchups. Love denying planeswalkers with this spell.
Thanks for Having a look! Your interest in Simic is Greatly appreciated ;)
