So this is my very first deck i'll ever be taking to a FNM. Its rakdos aggro, the idea was inspired by playing a lot of hearthstone lately, and noticing the rakdos cackler, and just evaluating cards stats based on their mana cost. The idea is to beat your opponent down as fast as possible with strong creatures
i also thought it was pretty good for its cost
Rakdos Cackler
and
Firedrinker Satyr
- your 1 drops in this deck, having one in your opening hand is the most ideal situation, unleash the rakdos cackler every single time, we dont want to waste our time blocking
Spike Jester
Rix Maadi Guildmage
and Pack Rat are this deck's 2 drops. Spike Jester is great for maximising damage if they have no early blockers, swinging for 5 on turn 2 (after a 1 drop which is ideal). Pack Rat in my theory forms a kind of 'failsafe' to the deck, where even if you're drawing useless cards for 3 mana you can always play another pack rat in the worst case scenario, and a swarm of rats is almost always scary.
Cryptborn Horror
and
Splatter Thug
form the 3 drops for the deck. Cryptborn Horror can potentially come in as a 5/5 after an ideal turn 3 assuming the opponent has played no defenders and we have done five damage. As this deck hasn't really been put through the motions i'm not sure if this is ideal yet. This deck is trying to be aggro, and not dealing damage is a bad sign, so maybe we are losing anyway in that situation. Splatter Thug feels unremarkable and quite slow, but theres certain enchantments that hose haste, making things come in tapped. i'd rather have some first strike action so my creatures are stronger
Turn 4 is the "Big Turn" in this deck design
Desecration Demon, Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch and
Rakdos, Lord of Riots
all play an integral role in being purely awesome and extremely valuable. Exava will also allow any other unleash creatures to come in with haste from then on, this will hopefully bring an onslaught that ends the game a few turns later.
Lightning Strike and Doom Blade are in there to remove my opponents threats, or just burn them (in the case of lightning) if i have nothing else to do with that card and mana.
in the sideboard, Illness in the Ranks and Rakdos Charm shut down tokens for good. Ultimate Price is great for mono coloured removal if i need more of it. Shock will see play against aggro especially, to remove their early threats for as cheap mana as possible so i can play my own still.
Rakdos Charm is also delicious graveyard hate and all!
Stormbreath Dragon a card i have sitting around in my collection, might prove an awesome finisher.
Due to money considerations this deck isnt as awesome as it could be, but heres some cards im thinking of slowly collecting and adding as i playtest
2 more Desecration Demon - might be worth it to take a whole playset to be honest
4 copies of
Blood Crypt
- for a measly 2 life, i can help guarantee i have the mana for these multicoloured cards. this is one i really want to get a playset of
4 copies of Dreadbore - might be a sideboard card to play against heavy planeswalker play, while still seeing utility as a 2 mana removal
4 copies of
Mutavault
- amazing card to get for a control deck i want to make later on, and it synergises with packrat well, achieving the packrat buff for only 1 mana and being immune to most removal except instants.
Tell me what you think of the deck, and what improvements could be made - especially cost effectively!
