Najeela - To The Arena - Semi Budget

Commander / EDH Aggro Combo Five Color Tokens

kmnop

This is my first run at a deck w/ Najeela, the Blade-Blossom .

I saw this commander run in some gameplay videos from The Spike Feeders (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGh7-4mDFssqhu_UpOwRzIA). Great content btw! I was very impressed by how Najeela, the Blade-Blossom can make an army of warriors all on her own, combo or not.

I know there are multiple ways to build her. I wanted to focus on using her ability to make a team of warriors and combat. The decklist here (http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/warrior-queen-najeela-midrangetempo-cedh-primer/) was a great source of inspiration, and 100% a much better deck than mine. I operate on quite a limited budget. However, that primer made it much easier to know how/when to use Najeela, the Blade-Blossom 's ability. There are more phases to combat than I realized, and without that knowledge, you can't take advantage of the best combo's she can create.

I won't spend much time discussing the gameplay or mechanics of the deck. The primer linked above already does a great job! I will note that my plan is to play Najeela, the Blade-Blossom on turn 2 and keep her protected. Sort of operating like a tempo deck, keeping mana up to counterspell any removal sent her way. I'm not playing her in a strictly competitive meta, and I've discovered that Najeela, the Blade-Blossom , Tymna the Weaver , and the like, who rely on an open board for free attacks in cEDH often need a little help getting through in a casual game. So the odd includes like Iroas, God of Victory and such are to help there. Apostle's Blessing and such do double duty providing unblockability, or protection.

A final note. You may think my mana base is crazy, and you would be correct! As a budget player, building a 5 color deck that needs to be making plays turn 1 and 2 was quite a dilemma to solve. I have no duals, no fetches, and little in the way of shocks. Yet I need lands coming down untapped. My solution thus far has been to use all the fast lands and pain lands I can get ahold of. In general, since I'm running mana dorks to get Najeela, the Blade-Blossom out on turn 2, I need untapped green mana ASAP. After that, I need to cast my commander. So red mana is the next highest priority. I built the mana base with that in mind, trying to put as many lands as possible that tapped for R or G with the other colors.

.................

Regarding early lines of gameplay...I've started adding a handful of 2-drop warriors to the deck. Sometimes asking my crazy mana base and mana dorks to get Najeela out turn 2 is asking a little too much. The 2-drop warriors still allow me to make my first warrior token when I cast Najeela and attack with them on turn 3. They aren't equivalent to better lands and fast mana, but they definitely help me to not fall behind. I've noticed a significant change in speed/consistency since adding them.
