Najeela's Relentless Warriors

Maybeboard

This is my take on Najeela, the Blade-Blossom. No Infinite combos, but still fast, spicy and brutal. Najeela has no friends.

Phase 1: The Birth

This deck started out as an upgraded Commander's Quarters deck. It was also my first. I watched Mitch's video and went that's the deck for me. All I did was his upgrades at the end and some lands like Yavimaya Coast, Cascading Cataracts; plus Crop Rotation to find Cascading Cataracts.

Phase 2: Adopting

I had allot of fun, but the deck was top decking way to fast. So when by budget recovered I adopted into the deck. Primarily Thrasher Brute, Mindblade Render, Azra Oddsmaker and Warriors' Lesson

Phase 3: Adopting and

Black helped allot, but I wanted to be in all five colors without slowing the pace of the deck. Took awhile to figure out how to do that without breaking my bank, but I eventually managed to do it. At this point the deck still had infinite combos, and it wasn't uncommon to end the game on turn four. Eventually that got boring as it really wasn’t a game of magic anymore (and I don't want a CEDH deck). Which leads us to the next phase.

Phase 4: Removing the Infinite Combos

Removing all the combos really didn't affect the way I played that much. Granted I win less often, but I have more fun just burning everyone's life down to the ground anyway and if I win I win, if I don't is fun anyway.

Phase 5: Bringing in Jegantha, the Wellspring

This is a rough change to make as some of the best card's to bring with Najeela don't fit with Jegantha's requirements. If I still ran the combos it would be impossible because most of the combos don't allow the companion, even with out them there are still some rough pulls to make. Species Specialist, Eldritch Evolution and Champion of Lambholt just to name a few, but I want to try it.

This deck is meant to come out swinging and not stop until all the opponent's are dead or the deck was KIA. The worst case Scenario is to be locked out of combat and have no way of triggering Impact Tremors.

Turns 1-2, should accomplish both ramp and casting at least one warrior. Turn 3, cast Najella and begin multiplying warriors. Turns 4+, change with hand and Game state. Usually fixing mana to a full and of course casting Purphoros, God of the Forge, Impact Tremors, Thrasher Brute and Throne of the God-Pharaoh.

If all of that happens it will set the game on fire. (In that everyone is burning down, and their scrambling for a hose.)

The ideal hand will have: 2 lands, 1 Ramp, 1 Control, 1 Draw/tutor, 1 Fearless Warrior(to cast early) and 1 war tactician. Obviously this is not very likely thus the land, Draw/Tutor and a Fearless warriors are the most critical. (Outside of having the appropriate mana to play the hand.)

Land zoning:

  • Land Total 33
  • 9 basic lands (1 , 1 , 1 , 2 and 4 )
  • 10 Dual lands (6 Shock and 4 Pain)
  • 8 Fetch land
  • 4 Five Color lands
  • 2 Utility lands, Ancient Tomb and Arcane Lighthouse

Land maybe Board

Homeward Path is a great way to prevent the theft of Najeela, but as it does not tap for color I am hesitant to include it with out better mana fixing. paths of ancestry is a great land for tribal decks, but it is slow and this deck depends on speed. Breeding Pool would be in the deck if I owned it. I use Three Visits and Nature's Lore it is the last fetchable dual needed to fully utilize those spells. (maybe wizards will finish the tango dual set?)

Ramp

I really like the ramp I have it works well the only things I'll mention are Crop Rotation and Brighthearth Banneret.

  • Crop Rotation sacs a land so it only ramps if I grab Ancient Tomb, but the ability to grab any land is very useful. I will gladly sac a Forest for Command Tower if it meant activating Najeela's second ability. (it is why there are 4 basic forests, that and because most of the ramp is green.)

  • Brighthearth Banneret I am not sure how good he is, I can rarely use him for mana, but it's great when I do. I sometimes wonder if Radha, Heir to Keld would be better.
