Preparing The Cooking Space

Proper Tools Show

Look, Tana, the Bloodsower is a professional, people. Professionals need fancy tools for their fancy skills. We start off by putting on a proper apron. Tana needs to make sure she doesn't get messy as she gathers all of her ingredients. Canopy Cover is preferable, but a Prowler's Helm , Swiftfoot Boots , Shield of the Avatar , Bastion Protector , Champion's Helm , Darksteel Plate , or Fanatical Devotion or Hot Soup (Because flavor was too dang good) will do.

The basis is, we don't want her to worry about anything impeding her while she cooks, thereby allowing those creative juices to really flow. We need to prevent her from being set back by things such as creature removal, and if we can remove all obstacles from her way, even better!

We have a few helpers in the kitchen as well to make that come to pass. Sigarda's Aid and Open the Armory will get you suited up to your liking. After you get going, an influx of customers will help you gather things faster with Jar or eyeballs and Aetherworks Marvel .

Timing Is Everything! Show

There's lots of people out there who are waiting on the next batch of stew, so you got to get your cutie patooty movin'! The quicker you get nanny to the kitchen, the better off you'll be :)

Cards like Skyshroud Elf , Elves of Deep Shadow , Sylvan Caryatid , Utopia Mycon , and Chromatic Lantern ramp you up TOWARDS your commander.. which is really the only ramp we need. The enchantments and artifacts are pretty cheap mana-wise.. so we want our ramp to have cmc < 4.

3 Cups "Sac"rolings

We need some substance in this stew of ours, and Nana Tana knows just what we need.

"Sac"rolings!

Tana goes on out and gets us some saprolings so that we can sacrifice them and fuel the entering the battlefield/leaving the battlefield engine. To make these saprolings count, we are going to need some more help. Besides the enchantment and artifact boost to power and toughness WHICH YOU SHOULD ALWAYS PUT ON TANA, there are some more cards which enhance her ability.

Anointed Procession and Parallel Lives will double your token output.

Mycoloth serves as both sac engine and token producer!

Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest is the flip side of Ivy Lane Denizen to buff up your commander and fueling the sacroling engine. Let's also not forget good ol' Blade of the Bloodchief and Sadistic Glee .

The deck is chalked full of this sac engine with cards that have no-mana-cost-attached sac abilities.

2 tbsp. yeet

There are lots of things which simply take care of themselves as you gather up your little sacrolings and throw them into the stew! We get a lot of utility this way due to the various effects they produce. In this deck, you typically win with commander damage, but this sac engine that keeps on turning helps keep players on their toes and gives you the upper hand. Let's have a look.

Enter the Battlefield Effects Show

We are about to get a lot of creatures entering the battlefield.. And we definitely want to capitalize on that.

To start out, we have some life gain to keep you sustainable. ( Soul Warden and Essence Warden ). It's not a win condition or even a resource, it's just handy to have.

We throw in an Altar of the Brood (once again not a win con but handy for getting you the advantage).

Impact Tremors , however, is a little more characteristic of your win condition.

We then move on to our counter givers which will fuel more ETB effects. Ivy Lane Denizen allows Tana to double her power each time she gets through, since saprolings are green creatures. Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest allows all creatures on the battlefield get incredibly strong. and of course Mycoloth plays into both of those cards very well, too.

Leave the Battlefield/ Enter the Graveyard Effects Show

It's important to note that tokens do indeed enter the graveyard before they go back to token land!

110.5f A token that's phased out, or that's in a zone other than the battlefield, ceases to exist. This is a state-based action; see rule 704. (Note that if a token changes zones, applicable triggered abilities will trigger before the token ceases to exist.)

Now that that technicality is out of the way, let's get on to the good stuff, shall we?

As for Blood Artist and Zulaport Cutthroat , Purphoros, God of the Forge , Hissing Iguanar , Impact Tremors and Goblin Sharpshooter .. well .. I think this video explains it best.

most death triggers are individual in this deck.. so feel free to tap Goblin Sharpshooter in between each and every death of a saproling (which you will easily do with one of the many sac cards).

That with Requiem Angel is a LOT of death and ETB effects.

Fecundity gets you a huge upper hand, as well as Dragon Appeasement

Aetherworks Marvel allows you to get free stuff! What's more is that unused energy counters, unlike Mana, doesn't deplete from its pool between phases if left unused! So you get to take leftovers home in a doggy bag!

Dictate of Erebos and Grave Pact keep your enemies' battlefield manageable, creating a straight shot for the voltron machine of nana Tana.

Now... IF.. for whatever inhumane and grotesque reason you get more eyeball counters on Jar of Eyeballs than you have cards in your deck.... you get to organize your library however you want it for the rest of the game.

And also I apologize to your opponent whole heartedly.

Helps to trigger ETB/LTB Show

Of Course, to get all of these effects to happen, we need some good sac engines! Among these are:

Carrion Feeder which is great because you can scoop your whole battlefield if you wanna! sacs as limitless as your creatures are. No mana limitations attached! Similar creatures are Bloodthrone Vampire (licking sauce off of her wrist)), Butcher of the Horde and Utopia Mycon .

Mycoloth and Tana are just best friends. They share the same train of thought..

Skullclamp is great card advantage and sac engine, especially when you have out Reliquary Tower . It doesn't work as great if Ravos, Soultender is out, but still can work with the sac engine if you wanted to pay the extra mana to equip it.

Clean-up - an orderly kitchen is a happy one :D

Ravos, Soultender really gets the butt-end of this job, but what would a chef be without her loyal sous chef? Ravos gets stuck with doing the dishes all the time (sometimes the same dish over and over again), having to inspire the crew and even stepping in to fill the gaps if Tana keeps getting sent to the graveyard. (which you should absolutely do in stead of putting Tana, the Bloodsower in the command zone if you feel ravos is safe until your next turn!)

Because of this clean-up mentality, I think that Ravos can in some cases be a better target for Darksteel Plate than Tana is, seeing as he can just go get Tana the next turn.
