Narset, Enlightened Master (Competitive, cEDH)

Commander / EDH Competitive RUW (Jeskai, America) Turns

CrystalQuarry

Narset, Enlightened Master is a commander that often instills a sense of fear and dread once other players see it as your commander because of the incredibly powerful triggered ability to free-cast up to 4 cards off the top of your library each time she swings. The goal of this deck is to literally end the game should Narset ever get the opportunity to swing. This is done by throwing in a high density of extra turn and extra combat spells into the deck to allow you to basically beat everyone down to death.

Outside of this core the deck can be built in a few different ways, but they essentially boil down to either going all-in on rushing Narset out as fast as humanly possible or by significantly slowing down the game while grinding towards an opening to swing with Narset with Stax. This deck is more of the all-in variety, however, this doesn't mean it doesn't have interaction.

In order to get Narset out as fast as possible it is necessary to have another large section of the deck devoted to ramp, which for Jeskai is going to translate into a lot of mana rocks, but there are unique cards that can serve as both ramp and even a haste enabler like Generator Servant . For mana rocks all the usual suspects are included including one-time stuff like Jeweled Lotus , Lotus Petal , and Lion's Eye Diamond as every extra mana is needed as early as possible to create the 6 CMC for Narset. Dockside Extortionist is another great card for fast ramp and fixing that can often lead to a turn 3 Narset.

To help protect the deck during the critical moment when we go to actually cast Narset we need protection to ensure she resolves. This is why the deck runs Cavern of Souls and Grand Abolisher in addition to some low to the ground and effective counters like Pyroblast , Red Elemental Blast , Swan Song , and Force of Will .

After casting Narset we do not want to give 3 opponents an opportunity to kill her even with the natural hexproof offering a layer of protection. Thus we have a handful of haste enablers that can be played on early game turns to allow Narset immediate action like Bloodlust Inciter , Torch Courier , Lightning Greaves , Need for Speed , Mass Hysteria , and Hall of the Bandit Lord .

The "guaranteed" end the game combo is resolving Enter the Infinite . After drawing the entire deck Omniscience is put back as the single remaining card in the library. Then you choose two useless red cards to exile to cast Fury of the Horde for free, allowing Narset to attack again the same turn and cast Omniscience . This unlocks the rest of the deck all at once including an unending sequence of extra turns with Beacon of Tomorrows and Nexus of Fate . Another hit that usually ends the game on the spot is Armageddon as most people will not be able to answer Narset or execute their own strategies afterwards.

There are a few utility cards which I've chosen to run in this deck, but could be cut for more interaction such as Scroll Rack that help improve consistency. I've also included a decent number of tutors in the deck to find interaction or enablers as needed such as Fabricate , Spellseeker , Mystical Tutor , Personal Tutor , and Gamble . Frequently I've found myself using Gamble for Seize the Day as it can be cast with flashback even if I end up discarding it to Gamble.

For lands, it's mostly fetches and fetchables with a handful of other lands with useful abilities like those mentioned in previous sections. The only other notable land that doesn't help make Jeskai is Ancient Tomb which is purely for ramp.

The deck is still missing a couple key counters like Mana Drain , or even protection through cards like Teferi, Time Raveler , so I will make more updates in the future as the deck gets fine tuned.

I hope you find this list useful should you decide to embrace taking turns with Narset!
