Centurion commander is a variant of the non-multiplayer commander versions that have developed over the years. The format was born among the italian players communities, in January 2019. Centurion was born and raised with the intention of merging and involving players in an attractive and engaging format, structured to establish itself as a "competitive" single player commander format. PLANESWALKERS

The centerpiece of the deck, friendly cards to remove with Narset, Enlightened Master ability to gain more board advantage than the opponent who will no longer be able to recover it. The Jeskai color scheme allows you to play some of the strongest planeswalkers ever printed:

• Ajani Vengeant: he allows you to gain time by keeping tapped an enemy land or creature, to get rid of a creature with toughness 3 or less (and to gain 3 life), and to potentially ending the game with his ultimatum.

• Chandra, Torch of Defiance: one of the best Chandra. Four ability are not few, and each of them is very different making this Chandra very versatile. With her help you can remove the topdeck card and you can cast it by paying its mana cost ("cast" all cards except for lands) as if you have one more card in hand each turn or you can start to thin the enemy life keeping it in exile to deal 2 damage. You can ramp to make the arrival of Narset, Enlightened Master imminent the next turn, even without drawing / playing other lands. You can also deal 4 damage to an annoying creature with toughness 4 or less, creatures that are increasingly present also as commanders like Winota, Joiner of Forces, Anafenza, the Foremost, Urza, Lord High Artificer and his construct. This is very important because I don't play many spells that exceed Lightning Bolt 3 damage. Lastly her ultimatum is another wincon because it allows you to deal 5 damage every time you cast a spell: since you earn Chandra emblem you only need 4 or 5 spells to win the game, theoretically just one RIGHT attack by Narset, Enlightened Master. Tip: 5 damage trigger ability already works when the spells are casted regardless of whether they resolve or not, so you can cast one spell and use a counterspell on it to inflict 10 damage.

Noob Traps & Notable Exclusions Show

LANDS

• Scry lands (Temple of Enlightenment, Temple of Epiphany, Temple of Triumph): scrying helps a lot to dig through your deck (to have always an answer), having no mana to cast them doesn't. I preferred to exclude from my list all non-essential lands that enter to the battlefield tapped.

• Fast lands (Seachrome Coast, Spirebluff Canal, Inspiring Vantage): great if you play them in the first 3 turns of the game. Personally they are behind many other choices that have already been excluded, therefore they will find less and less place with the release of stronger and stronger lands.

• Celestial Colonnade: really good beater. Animating this land to attack an annoying planeswalker (or even the opponent) in a mirror match should not be underestimated (it is played in some commander lists indeed). Personally I abandoned it cause my "tapped lands" opinion and secondly cause our plan is not killing the opponent by creature damages but by board advantage (colonnade almost never kills the opponent by itself LOL).

• Irrigated Farmland: acceptable dual land for its cycle ability and for the possibility of being fetched EOT and therefore not considering its tapped entrance. But with the advent of Raugrin Triome I prefered to leave this land on the bench.

• Rugged Prairie: is the predominant color in this deck and so must of the lands have to add at least blue mana. If the other filter lands (Mystic Gate and Cascade Bluffs) are played, the prairie is not because of her color scheme ().

• Tolaria West: a land that can function as a cmc 0 tutor. Unfortunately Mana Crypt is banned and I don't play Pact of Negation, so Hall of the Bandit Lord and Cavern of Souls are the only valid targets (you can use it to find Wasteland too, depending on the situation). But why tolaria outside and Weathered Wayfarer inside? This is a land and in the worst case it gives you a mana if you play it. The answer is that tolaria west is too slow, considering also that transmute works as a sorcery. I think weathered wayfarer is more versatile. He has less impact on mana and can tutor at instant speed maybe EOT. Having less lands than your opponent to make the ability work doesn't count much as we will not always play first and then because there is a little trick with fetchlands: tap, pay 1 life and sac the fetchland to put the ability on stack, now you control 1 less land than your opponent, in resp tap wayfarer and put his ability on the stack (the last one will resolve first).

• Desolate Lighthouse: very important to improve the quality of our hand discarding unnecessary cards. The activation cost is quite high so we will use it at the middle/late game and EOT of course. It has no place on my list considering that it adds colorless mana (I have also limited all the colorless lands except for the evergreens Cavern of Souls, Hall of the Bandit Lord and Wasteland).

• Pact of Negation: this card is practically played to respond to a possible wrath or sac-effect in the opponent's turn after we are tappedout for playing Narset, Enlightened Master. Theoretically it could also work as a normal counter without Narset, Enlightened Master on the battlefield, but we should always wait 5 mana to pay its upkeep cost. Therefore having it in hand in the early stages of the game is like playing with one card less. Definitely Fierce Guardianship is more and more better.

• Flawless Maneuver:

SORCERIES

• Armageddon & Ravages of War: the finishers! Playing creatures on turn one, two, three and then resolving one of these grenades on turn 4 is almost certainly GG. Also removing these cards with only Narset as creature on the battlefield is GG. Unfortunately, also in this case, having them in hand in the early stages of the game is like playing with one card less considering that we will always have less creatures compared to the opponent. Cause this reason I see them better in a tempo deck like Geist of Saint Traft, aggro deck like Arahbo, Roar of the World or Reyhan, Last of the Abzan / Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder and control deck like Queen Marchesa.

• Cataclysm: "thanks" to one of the latest banlist updates, centurion players gained another mass-removal spell. Its potential is very high but, obviously, subordinate to what's on the battlefield. Also in this case I see the card works better in a deck with cmc 3 or 4 commander as for Armageddon and Ravages of War. Tips: Cataclysm sacrifice also affects planeswalkers.

• Heavy extraturns (Karn's Temporal Sundering, Expropriate, Time Stretch, etc..): they make the deck very heavy and if they are not removed with Narset, Enlightened Master ability we can hardly play them. The only interesting ones are Beacon of Tomorrows and Nexus of Fate for their ability to be shuffled again into the deck, ending up having only these cards in the library (and so infinite extraturns with infinite combat steps). Personally playing 5 light cmc extraturns is the right choice because we still manage to play them with our mana resources also not in late game.

PLANESWALKERS

• Narset Transcendent: she's really good in control-mirror matches due her ultimate ability and even against aggro deck due her high starting loyalty counters (6) for only 4 mana! In addition I noticed that all narset abilities work on noncreature / nonland cards, therefore she integrates perfectly into a deck with only 2 creatures. The answer to why she is on the bench is her -2 ability (really? rebounding an extraturn?). Yeah, rebound ability works only if the casted spell resolves, otherwise doesn't. For this reason I preferred to play Ral, Storm Conduit instead. Compared to Narset Transcendent Ral copies extraturns in a safer way and makes damages to opponent or enemy planeswalker. In reverse his +2 ability only scry 1 and can't ultimate. He can't even combo out because of the lack of copying spells in this deck. In conclusion I think they are both playable, depending on the player gamestyle. Not wanting to exaggerate the planeswalkers total number (maximum 9 or 10) I couldn't play both.

• Narset of the Ancient Way: honestly I tested this planeswalker insufficiently. What held me back is her +1 ability: gaining two life is good considering that we are a control deck, not be able to spend , or mana to cast our commander isn't. And it doesn't even help much considering this deck play many spells at instant speed and it doesn't play bigspells. Such a pity. Especially for her -2 ability that transforms useless cards in our hand into damages cards.

ENCHANTMENTS

• Omniscience: one of the biggest noob traps. Almost impossible to play, it is 99% of the times an unusable card without being removed with Narset, Enlightened Master ability. In addition we don't need to cast free spells from our hand, we already have Narset, Enlightened Master and all the tools that allow hand manipulation into topdeck (Scroll Rack, Brainstorm, Jace, the Mind Sculptor). For these reasons omniscience is really superfluous in this deck.

ARTIFACTS

• Lightning Greaves: if Hall of the Bandit Lord is powerful because it provides haste to the commander and, in the worst case, it only adds 1 mana to cast a spell, Lightning Greaves are less strong. In this control version giving speed to Narset, Enlightened Master is not a priority (we try to slowly create an advantage), I see it better in an "all in" version of her.

• Mana rocks like Boros Signet or Talisman of Conviction: same thought as filter land. If I have to ramp with mana rocks then I choose the artifacts they provide me at least . Cmc 3 artifacts are good specially if they allow us to cast Narset 1 turn first (like Coalition Relic, Worn Powerstone and Basalt Monolith), but I preferred not to play them cause mana curve: putting a rock into play on turn two allows us to cast a cmc 4 spell on turn 3 (wrath-effect or planeswalker).

• Equipments (Sword of Fire and Ice, Sword of Feast and Famine, Umezawa's Jitte, etc..): this is not a "Voltron" deck, so we don't need to boost our commander. This is not even a "tempo" deck in which playing enough creatures allows us to consider adding some equipments permanently. Normally one or two commander's attacks are almost always sufficient to declare GG in this deck. In addition, providing Narset protection from red (to get around the sweepers spells) is practically irrelevant. Remember: the objective is not to do 21 commander combat-damage, but to create board advantage. For these reasons equipments are useless in this deck.
