Maybeboard

Hello Internet!!!

enter image description here

Just your run of the mill constructed Spike looking to have a little fun with friends playing commander! I'm trying to do powerful things here but not have a consistent turn 3-4 kill like you see in cEDH decks. So there's going to obviously be better options or inclusions I could put in here, but I'm trying to keep this at a moderate power level that's still fun to play with and against.

Here we have Nissa, the queen of the eldazi... Lore wise that seems very wrong, but roll with it here. Nissa is perfect for this role because of her utility being able to either ramp when flipped, draw if not a land, make tokens, have a game ending ult, and worse case simply finding lands when in need. There are certainly more competitive land destruction builds you could do here, but for the semi GP level player casual tables I've frequented this build can do some work. The major stalling tools and sometimes game ending effects are Hall of Gemstone, Song of the Dryads on combo deck commanders, Wave of Vitriol for low basic land count decks, and the multiple mass permanent board wipes. The beauty in running land based ramp means that we have little to no artifacts left behind to ramp, then when we use Oblivion Stone, Ugin, the Spirit Dragon, All Is Dust, Perilous Vault, or Bane of Progress. The other added benefit to having such a value based commander is how mitigated the tax is when she goes down. Having so much ramp and an initially low cost commander makes it easy to recast.

March 2022: -1 Arch of Orazca +1 Boseiju, Who Endures

Justification: Arch of Orazca seems nice on paper as a mana sink that can be used repeatedly, but War Room is just a better and cheaper effect. Boseiju, Who Endures is just "WOW", what a card! Land, removal, & easily recurred it's just the whole package and will be a staple for all levels of players and all formats.

12/2022 Update. Made A LOT of changes and updated the deck with 2022 cards. See revisions list for all changes. Upgraded some of the older cards and modified for MTG's 2022 power creep. Also full leveraging the non-basic land & artifact/enchantment hate that the deck is based off of. This is essentially mono-green control. Which is.... AWESOME!!!

So if you like big ugly aliens and beasts give this a whirl. The budget versions are pretty easy, just swap out the big fatties and play less expensive ramp cards. It also works well on the cEDH side if you tune the deck to be more of a stax, land destruction, or group hate deck.
