this is mono-green "storm" that utilizes
Nissa, Who Shakes the World
's ability to untap lands (forests specifically) to make a large amount of mana. the signature spell,
Benefactor's Draught
, acts as both a ritual and a cantrip that is always accessible once our commander is out; additionally, after making infinite mana,
Benefactor's Draught
allows us to draw our entire deck and win the game.
~making infinite mana~
this deck's primary combo involves
Temur Sabertooth
,
Wirewood Symbiote
, any elf creature with cmc, and either
Karametra's Acolyte
or
Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary
(with five forests in play). with each of these cards in play, you are able to create infinite green mana.
combo explained :
- tap either
Karametra's Acolyte
or
Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary
for five green mana.
- activate
Wirewood Symbiote
to return the cmc elf to your hand, untapping either
Karametra's Acolyte
or
Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary
(five floating).
- activate
Temur Sabertooth
to return
Wirewood Symbiote
to your hand (three floating).
- cast
Wirewood Symbiote
and the cmc elf (one floating). you now have the same boardstate as in step one, except you have an extra green mana!
- repeat steps 1-4 infinitely to create infinite mana!
another version of this combo involves only
Staff of Domination
and
Karametra's Acolyte
or
Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary
(with five devotion to green or five forests respectively) :
- tap either
Karametra's Acolyte
or
Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary
for five mana.
- use three of the and tap
Staff of Domination
to use its third ability, untapping your mana producing creature (two floating).
- using its first ability, untap
Staff of Domination
with one (one floating).
- repeat steps 1-3 to create infinite mana!
note : due to
Staff of Domination
being relatively untutorable in mono-green, this combo route is much less reliable than the one listed above. however, it is much more compact, making it still useful.
with infinite mana, and
Nissa, Who Shakes the World
on the battlefield, we can draw our deck by repeatedly casting
Benefactor's Draught
.
winning the game!
unlike other competitive win conditions, nissa x combo wins by amassing an unwinnable boardstate for our opponents, as at the end of any of our primary "loop", our opponents will have no permanents in play...
our main loop involves
Primal Command
,
Beast Within
, and
Somberwald Stag
.
- cast
Beast Within
on any permanent, turning it into a 3/3 beast token.
- cast
Somberwald Stag
; with it's enter-the-battlefield trigger, target the newly made beast token. the two creatures will die.
- cast
Primal Command
, choosing the third and insert additional mode here modes. your graveyard (including
Beast Within
and
Somberwald Stag
) will be shuffled into your library.
- recast
Benefactor's Draught
enough times to draw your entire deck.
- with your deck once again in your hand, cast a recursion effect (preferably
Eternal Witness
) targeting
Primal Command
. it will be returned to your hand.
- bounce
Eternal Witness
back to your hand via
Temur Sabertooth
's activated ability.
- repeat steps 1-6 to remove all of your opponent's permanents from the board!
note : if you choose to use another recursion spell (such as
Regrowth
) in step 5, you can skip step 6, as the card will be reshuffled into your library via the next
Primal Command
shuffle.
from this point forward, we have essentially won the game, as we will have cast our entire library and will be swinging in with creatures each turn to slowly beat our opponents' life total. if they do attempt to cast anything, we will be able to destroy their permanents on our next turn.
with the fundamentals of the deck out of the way, let's talk about notable inclusions and exclusions!
~notable inclusions~
-
Riftsweeper
: this card helps alleviate the problem of exiled combo pieces in our deck, as without them, we are unable to win. if an opponent casts
Swords to Plowshares
in response to use performing our combo, we can likely save the run by casting
Riftsweeper
, returning the combo piece to our library, and drawing it with
Benefactor's Draught
. this is a super useful little creature.
-
Sensei's Divining Top
: while this may seem like a strange inclusion,
Sensei's Divining Top
allows us to smooth out our draws in the turns prior to us comboing off. additionally, it allows us to draw a card at instant speed; if we experience disruption during our combo turn, we may not have access to
Benefactor's Draught
due to its tax, making this card extremely important when we need one more draw.
-
Autumn's Veil
/
Veil of Summer
: these two cards are about the closest cards to counterspells that mono-green will receive. both allow our spells to resolve during our combo turn, and the latter even allows us to cantrip it when we need to (making it strictly better than
Autumn's Veil
). overall, both are extremely important in ensuring our combo's safety.
-
Finale of Devastation
: this card is absolutely amazing! not only does it allow us to tutor for crucial combo pieces, it even acts as a recursion spell for creatures in our graveyard. surprisingly, the "x>9" clause of the spell is very relevant, as it also gives haste to all of our creatures, meaning that if we searched for either
Karametra's Acolyte
or
Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary
, we can tap them for mana immediately! additionally, if we need to kill the table on the turn we combo off, we can make all of our creatures infinitely large and kill the table on the spot. a fantastic addition from war of the spark.

~tips and tricks + useful lines of play~
- without failure, you will almost always want to cast
Benefactor's Draught
the turn
Nissa, Who Shakes the World
comes into play. her +1, in combination with her static ability, allows you to instantly create two necessary for the first cast of your signature spell. not only will casting you the spell net you a card, it will untap your newly made 3/3 forest (along with any other mana dorks you control) so that you can defend nissa.
- speaking of which... do not be extremely protective of nissa. while she is the card that allows you to draw your deck, you can cast her an infinite amount of times after making an infinite amount of mana. do not hesitate to let her die instead of a creature land or mana dork, as mana is much more important to the deck's game plan.
-
Benefactor's Draught
is an extremely efficient ritual and source of card draw in this deck. our high number of mana dorks allow use to net mana when the spell untaps all creatures; use this to your advantage on combo turns, or simply when you're looking for combo pieces.
- in the case that you are comboing off with
Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary
, specifically on turn 4, you can dig for
Exploration
to play the fifth forest needed for the comboing prerequisites (assuming that you have made a land drop each turn).
- during the combo turn, or simply when you need multiple cards back from the graveyard,
Eternal Witness
can be repeatedly bounced and played with
Temur Sabertooth
's activated ability. this synergy is especially useful when you need to continuously gain value in the turns prior to you comboing off.
~sideboard options + explanations~
-
Collector Ouphe
: since we run an extremely small number of artifacts,
Collector Ouphe
acts as a one-sided hate piece against most decks. in addition to turning off artifact ramp, it prevents one of the most prevalent combos in the format:
Isochron Scepter
+
Dramatic Reversal
. and due to it being a creature, it is extremely accessable via creature tutors.
-
Kraul Harpooner
: similar to its EDH counterpart, this deck struggles to combo off against
Linvala, Keeper of Silence
and similar effects (due to them shutting off our mana dorks). while others, namely
Cursed Totem
, are artifacts (and are easily destroyable), mono-green struggles to have efficient creature removal; this card and
Somberwald Stag
are some of the only efficient answers to
Linvala, Keeper of Silence
.
-
Ramunap Excavator
: in metas containing a large amount of creature removal/boardwipes, our creature lands will often die. this card not only allows us to replay lost lands, but is tutorable with our creature tutors, making it a great answer to more grindy games.
-
Runic Armasaur
: similarily to
Ramunap Excavator
, this wide dinosaur allows us to maintain card advantage in longer games, allowing us to dig for combo pieces. additionally, against players who won't let you draw cards, it will restrict your opponent's actions; under this boi, they can't even crack fetchlands without you drawing a card. super useful!
-
Seedborn Muse
: against two or more stax decks,
Seedborn Muse
allows us to break serious parity with our opponents in the soft-lock boards they create. our commander is also a consistent source of creatures and mana, making nissa x combo a relatively stax-resistant deck after sideboarding.
