Sideboard

Maybeboard

Hi folks! When I saw new Niv, I felt compelled to gather a budget-friendly toolbox of fun dual-colored cards and see what our shiny new rainbow dracogenius could do with them. Focus is on having as few cards as possible in the deck that Niv's etb can't hit. Some 2/3rds of the deck (every colored card!) can be hit by Niv's ability.

Split cards are our brand of lucky charms. They essentially let us run a 123 card deck (again, 2/3rds of which Niv can grab)! Further, along with our hybrids, they enable us to meet Niv's deckbuilding puzzle but still play some 32 "monocolored" cards when our mana fixing isn't quite pulling its weight.

My group is cool with wishboards so I have included one for use with Glittering Wish. All other cards live here, as Niv can grab wish, but not any of those. Can wish for a Chromanticore to go voltron if we want to play the beatdown, or else grab Conflux to assemble some value from the deck. Other cards are generally answers to specific hard spots we might need to dig out of, i.e. Biomass Mutation, Emergency Powers, Everlasting Torment, Kaya, Bane of the Dead, Thousand-Year Storm and Dueling Grounds. Copying wish is a big fun play, and allows us to assemble one of the sideboard jank combos which otherwise aren't as consistent in the main deck. I had a fun time with Pyrrhic Revival (/ Everlasting Torment with a board burn) + Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons, followed up with Grind / Dust, Aurelia's Fury + Feather, the Redeemed, and Dovescape + Vexing Shusher (especially with Knight of New Alara on board),. If you don't want to run Wish, I'd recommend one of the aforementioned 5color cards in that slot, and maybe swap in your favorite combos for main deck budget utility cards...
Price based: Fracturing Gust, Wheel of Sun and Moon, Debtors' Knell, Fulminator Mage, Meddling Mage, Kolaghan's Command, Voidslime, Mirari's Wake

I am currently running proxies of a few cards that are above budget but I really love. Looking for cheap copies of Alchemist's Refuge, Manamorphose, Repudiate / Replicate, and Urza's Filter for the main deck, as well as Vexing Shusher for the side. Might wind up swapping them for cheaper options though.

Color based: Burgeoning and other mono green ramp.

Props to user: Nevinyrral_Mayor_of_Urborg and their deck Niv Reborn's Multicolor Jamboree (WAR) for the inspiration.

Looking ahead to make swaps for when Eldraine drops because HOLY MANADORKS BATMAN!

Faeburrow Elder is an obvious include in this deck, so I impulse ordered a $3 copy in case it shot up to BloomTender price (oops). Most importantly for us, it's two-color!! The only real question is what to cut for it. Leyline Prowler is probably the most similar card slot, but I think Prowler will skate by on its own merit--namely, it gives us colors of mana we don't already have.

Otherwise, ELD is shaping to be a great follow up to WAR for Niv fans. Escape to the Wilds is a great replacement for Urban Evolution, which lets us cut the overabundance of simic in the deck. Fabled Passage is a strictly better Terramorphic Expanse. Drown in the Loch does a hell of number on Dimir Charm, and could slot in as our go-to Counterspell. Outlaws' Merriment is interesting in that it makes two-color tokens, but I don't feel it's interactive enough. I wish there were more multicolored adventures, while Oakhame Ranger is cute, I don't think it does enough to include.
