No Fun Allowed Niv

Commander / EDH*

First of all: This deck doesn't depend on the general for the game plan. He supplies the colors, he has a really relevant ability (ever wiped the board with Blue Sun's Zenith? Feels good), but since he's 6CMC, you're better off waiting till you can protect him instead of just throwing him down as soon as possible.

Although Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind can combo out for a win through Curiosity and Ophidian Eye, I feel that there's no point in focusing on them in this deck. Niv is quite expensive general, and protecting him and combo pieces might not always be doable, even with the counterspell suite we pack.

What you do however is lock down the board with permission/bounce spells, and use whatever seems like the best idea at the time - combos with Kiki-Jiki, the Mirror Breaker, Bribery to use enemy's strength against him, Banefire to the dome, or any other way you see. What Niv does great however is provide card advantage, and clear board on back of that card advantage.

Using him to help you achieve your goals instead of being goal in itself makes him a very potent general.

In this deck you have many routes to victory, but most important aspect is board control. You use permission to delay your opponent from doing what they want, and then big sweep in the form of Evacuation/Earthquake to get rid of what managed to stick to the board, and then using infinite turns/infinite damage/regular damage/commander damage/enemy refusing to deal with your bullshit any more to win the game.

!!! Warning !!! If you care about being nice to people, this deck may not be something you want to play. Some people prefer their Commander games to be friendly. This deck is not for the faint of heart:

-If you're on a draw, Boomerang their first land into Regress on their first land into Cryptic Command on their first land into Snapcaster Regress on their first land into Capsize with Buyback on their fist land is something I've done before in 1v1.

-Curiosity + Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind = as much damage as you have cards in library

-Archaeomancer + Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker / Nucklavee/Izzet Chronarch/Mnemonic Wall = infinite spells (such as Time Stretch)

-Deceiver Exarch + Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker = infinite damage

-Tamiyo ultimating. In 1v1 it's quite normal to get her to ultimate (harder in multiplayer), but once it's done, you get infinite whatever spells you want. Time Warps? Counterspells? Force of Wills? Yep.
