Just getting into MTG with my local kitchen-table group. Grabbed a Mind-vs-Might duel deck after playing loads of magic duels on PC and falling in love with the Izzet playstyle. I absolutely love Jhoira and the mechanics in this deck, and since we seem to be going toward EDH as a group, I decided to build up a UR commander deck around the Mind deck, with some help from the examples I've seen from you lovely people.

  • First, abusing "enter the battlefield" abilities (i.e. "flicker"): Deadeye Navigator + Nucklavee , and Deadeye Navigator + Dualcaster Mage (and even Diluvian Primordial) are "combos" that have massive potential to scale drastically once I have enough mana...that is, if Plan A fails. Still looking for more intereting ways to abuse the flicker-style mechanic; it feels really "Jhoira", assuming a Wrath doesn't resolve somehow, but relying on Deadeye is risky.

  • Curiosity + Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind Apparently this is a classic, but if I can get it to work, hilarious win-con assuming I don't mill myself first.

  • Krark's Thumb + Ral Zarek and Krark's Thumb + Stitch in Time I really wanted Ral for the tap/untap. BUT...if he can get to 7, and I can happen to have the hilarity of krark's thumb in play, I have the possibility of a lot of extra turns, %50 chance of getting all 5. There's a few other funny coin-flip cards I've found, but I don't think Mana Clash is a great idea in EDH, idk.

Still, the main point of this deck is to abuse Jhoira's suspend:

  • Get BIG cards, that are difficult to remove/deal with, early. Kozilek, the Great Distortion, Artisan of Kozilek, Pathrazer of Ulamog, and Inkwell Leviathan are all intimidating, though admittedly they're no Ulamog, ceaseless hunger. With Annihilator or more card-draw, these could potential win-con early if done right. I particularly like the flavor of inkwell Leviathan -- I foresee an awesome u/b lovecraftian horror deck forthcoming showcasing hime a bit more _

  • To do this right, we need to wipe the board: Decree of Annihilation is our best, Obliterate can't be countered, and Nevinyrral's Disk is a...decent backup. Also, in 4-player commander, Blasphemous Act might not even need suspend in a 4-player EDH game, so it makes a great mid/late-game back-up plan.

  • Alternatively, get other creatures out of the way...either with mass-tapping/bouncing (lots of that in here) or with unblockability (see Aqueous Form)

  • To assist jhoira, there's loads of time-counter manipulation, and extra turn/upkeep tools in here (also see ral zarek/Paradox Haze). These seem a bit optimistic tempo and mana-wise, but hey, it fits the theme.

Finally, there's a lot of counter cards, esp. Izzet-style one's, and other support cards to find and play what I need (a la Tamiyo's Journal), and protect Jhoira et al from devastation too early on. More should be coming, check the acquire list.

All for now; this is a WIP. Also, Grip of Chaos is hilarious, and it's a small way to be a poor sport without actually rage-quitting. x)
