I am so happy with the deck's performance on yesterday's FNM! The meta consisted of mainly Rx Devotion decks, but was eventually won by U Devotion.

  • Round 1 UW Control 2:0 - the deck played surprisingly well. In the first game I let the opponent draw cards and waited for him to tap out for Elspeth, Sun's Champion and reanimated my Chimera. After Elspeth was down, the opponent had to surrender a few turns later. In game two the Gainsay didn't let Jace, Architect of Thought draw cards and some Dissolves and Azorius Charms later the opponent ran out of answers.

  • Round 2 Rg Devotion 1:2 - The first game the opponent mulliganed to 6, then played 3 Burning-Tree Emissary, which were conveniently exiled by Anger of the Gods. The second game was won by Hammer of Purphoros. In the third game i had Anger of the Gods and Spellheart Chimera in hand and chimera on the battlefield. The opponent had hammer and 2 emissaries. I had about 5-6 spells in the graveyard, so I decided to go for the race and resolved the second chimera. This was obviously wrong, because the opponent got access to Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and resolved a Stormbreath Dragon which would go monstrous on the next turn.

  • Round 3 Rw Burn 2:1 - I consider this a very bad matchup, because of the lack of lifegain on my side besides the slow Whip of Erebos. The first game I lost quite fast. In the second I kept a hand of 3 lands, 3 chimeras and Pilfered Plans. The opponent had to waste his burn on my chimeras and later I was quite happy to resolve Whip of Erebos and win the game. In the third game after mulliganning to 6 he decided to keep a hand of 2 Chandra's Phoenix, Magma Jet, land and some other spells. Quite nice hand even if he was screwed for 2-3 turns. He was screwed for 5-6 turns.

  • Round 4 Rw Devotion 1:2 - The first game finished quite fast with the opponent showing one of the more explosive starts of his deck. The second game I was able to control the board quite well and even if he had Purphoros, God of the Forge, he couldn't build devotion and after I resolved a whip, he surrendered. In the third game a Hammer was resolved and my opponent started swarming the board with tokens. Anger of the Gods killed 3 tokens and an Ash Zealot, but I didn't draw instant speed removal (Doom Blade was the next card on top of my deck).

Overall I am very satisfied with my home brew. Not losing 0:2 to some of the most popular decks was really good feeling. I think Psychic Strike, even being nice hard counter, was too expensive and didn't serve good job in protecting my reanimated Chimeras. I might try replacing it with Syncopate or even Duress.
