Hello there! Welcome to the deck tech featuring Osgir, the Reconstructorfoil! Boros/Lorehold has a new Commander that is capable of ramp AND card draw, not just being able to recast spells like Feather, the Redeemed or flipping cards like Winota, Joiner of Forces, but just pure card draw and ramp, from your graveyard of all places! If I've piqued your interest enough, lets get right into it with an explanation of Osgir.

Osgir, the Reconstructorfoil is a 4/4 Giant Artificer with Vigilance, already a pretty solid body, can't get bolted really.

He has 2 activated abilities:

  • , Sacrifice an artifact: Target creature you control gets +2/+0 until end of turn.

This is deceptively good. You can theoretically swing in with an unblocked creature, sac a thing and have it deal more than it would have, make your opponents think on their feet.

  • , , Exile an artifact with mana value from your graveyard: Create two tokens that are copies of the exiled card. Activate only as a sorcery.

The whole crux of the deck is this second activated ability. We want to be using this to our advantage as often and as much as we possibly can. The only downside to this unique ability is that we can't do it during other people's turns, but a plus side is the ability doesn't target, its part of the cost, so we have to make the most of it.

Now, with that out of the way, lets start the deck tech!

We want to activate Osgir as many times as we can during our turn and make as many copies of things as possible.

Lets run through some basic mana sculpting.

All of these interactions require Osgir in play, since we don't have a way to give our Giant haste, we have to wait a turn cycle to activate him. Let's assume we play safe and we have a total of 6 mana in resources to cast our commander. A Mountain, a Plains, Sol Ring, Boros Signet, and Darksteel Citadel. Simple enough.

So we untap for the turn and draw, whats the best thing to do without having to worry about whats in hand? A safe, but simple; tried and true method for playing Magic. Just ramp. Always be ramping. We've got 3 things in play that we could sacrifice by paying 1 colorless. So lets just do Sol Ring. This interaction will only cost us 2 mana to do.

  1. Sol Ring for , then pay to sacrifice it to Osgir.
  2. Tap Osgir for and exile Sol Ring.
  3. Reconstruct 2 rings.

Congrats, for 2 mana, you've created 4 mana that you can just use.

But with something as simple as this, we can do so many advanced things in this deck. Like draw 20, 30, 40 cards and make mana seemingly from nowhere.

Lets take things up a notch.

We know how to make mana now, and activate Osgir a lot making multiple token copies, what can we do with it all together? Below I'll list some notable combos or cards for Osgir to tinker and interact with.

Thanks for taking the time to look at my deck! There's finally a level of depth to Boros/Lorehold and I'm 100% here for it; now there's strategy involved, ramp and card draw, and multiple ways to improve and reconstruct to make this deck be the best it can be. Let me know if you have any suggestions or just leave a like!

So after playing several games in paper with this deck, I've decided to make cuts and additions. Not only is it ridiculous and fun to play, but having the interaction in the deck is necessary. I've been lucky enough to have friends trade me stronger inclusions like Metalworker, Mana Crypt and Jeweled Lotus and decided on some older cards that make the deck a flavor-win with Vorthos in mind.

Got a quick one here, drew some inspiration from unstable_anomaly (Thank you, love the Myr Battlesphere/Displacer combo line, really like mixing in Goblin Engineer to tutor your artifacts to the grave! ^-^).

So, Modern Horizons II looks really good, as for taking things out I'm not entirely certain, but there's a lot of things I want to put in. I'll list them below:

New fun cards? Show

That's it for now, but I'll see what works when the cards are released. Thanks for stopping by!

Been working a new job, so haven't really had a great chance to update fully, back on the computer to give a quick one.

In the future I'll be watching for new cards to include in this deck, otherwise I'll leave it alone for now. The only thing I'd like to see is Basic Artifact lands at some point, then we can really make this deck shine!

Until the next update!

Making a few adjustments to the decklist, removing a few pet cards and less important cards to make room for more effective/useful inclusions.

Whats In? Show

That's all for this update, I didn't really see anything worthwhile from Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, but that doesn't mean there aren't any good cards in it! Treasure Vault is a very good inclusion, but I decided against it. There are other great protection Equipment for Osgir, but this isn't an Equipment deck so that's why you won't see cards like that in this list. I will update sections where applicable, notably Combos.

I'll see you after Innistrad: Midnight Hunt spoiler season! Maybe there will be some spooky cards I can throw in here, maybe some more Flashback?

Til next time!

Made a few more adjustments to the deck after looking at what's new in MID, only 1 card I saw that I really liked for this deck in particular. Let's see what we're taking out.

What's Coming Out? Show

What's Going In? Show

Unfortunately, nothing with Flashback struck me on this set for Innistrad, but maybe there will be more in Crimson Vow? Who knows? The biggest takeaway is that there was a huge tutor for this set in Moonsilver Key and I just about crapped my pants when I saw it. We'll see what happens in the next set I guess... until then, see ya!

Been a bit of time since the last one, but its been worth the wait.

Conclusion Show

Well, its been quiet, but the last commander ban announcement deemed it necessary to update the decklist.

-Mana Crypt Out -Jeweled Lotus Out

This hits the competitive scale kinda hard, which I feel drops this Osgir build from Competitive to High Power. Don't get be wrong, it's still very strong and very fast, but it does slow us down by 1 or 2 turns if we can't get our fast mana.

-Tibalt's Trickery In -Reprieve In

I feel these are much needed inclusions, and honestly the deck could use more counterspell, but it does make for fun interactions with Isochron Scepter!

Anyways.. until the next update!

Updates Add

Its been some time since my last update, but I figured I'd pop back before March of the Machine drops. I've been watching and waiting for new interesting artifacts to appear, nothing has really piqued my interest since before Crimson Vow. The only thing that I was remotely interested in recently was Mondrak, Glory Dominus, but it can't be easily tutored in this deck... its too big at a 4/4 for my recruiters to grab, and its neither an artifact nor an enchantment which makes it even harder to find or rip off the top... so I couldn't justify including it. BUT, seeing the power creep for Phyrexia: All Will Be One made me excited for potential power of artifacts in March of the Machine... needless to say I've got my fingers crossed.

Also, LOTR is happening I guess and I'm pretty disappointed in the One Ring.
