The deck combines the classic Painter's Servant + Grindstone combo with wizard tribal. It nominates "Red" with Painter's Servant to abuse Blue Elemental Blast and Hydroblast. The wizards serve to find the combopieces (Sage of Epityr and Trinket Mage) as well as to counter spells via Patron Wizard's ability. Muddle the Mixture can both tutor for Painter's Servant and protect him from removal once he is in play. Pithing Needle can be fetched with Trinket Mage in a pinch.

The deck is semi-budget which explains the lack of Vendillion Clique, Snapcaster Mage, and Jace, Vryn's Prodigy
