Painter’s true name

Legacy*

SlapChopNinja

Sideboard

This is a pretty unique deck in that you have a lot of different lines for every matchup and although it can be fairly straightforward and powerful there are also a lot of small details you can miss.

Painter’s servant only 2 real interactions with this deck are with force of will and grindstone. But there are both advantages and disadvantages to running this card.

Against red based decks you need to be careful of naming blue vs pyroblast.

Against death and taxes be careful of naming blue or red for sword of fire and ice. Also be careful of naming black or green for mirran crusader. White is usually the safest call unless you have a force of will which you need to activate. Also be careful of playing painter servant into mother of runes as she can make their creatures unblockable.

Against eldrazi be sure to catch your opponent on using eldrazi temples and eye of ugins as their spells are now colored and shuts those lands off.

In weird scenarios with decks like elves you can be brave and side in dread of night and play painter naming white for a blowout.

Because you run a lot of colorless artifacts and not many double color spells you can easily fetch basics and it won’t hinder you much at all so feel free to play safe if necessary. You however can not operate well off of forest so you need to prioritize island then swamp first.

Whir of invention gets around chalice of the void so if you have the option to play grindstone or deathrite first you most of the time will play deathrite first unless you know you’re playing against chalice.

The deck has naturally a lot of value but there are some value plays you want to try and optimize as best as you can like using brainstorm or sylvan library with shardless and Tezzeret to both shuffle a card away and guarantee a card you want to play.

Don’t forget you can always brainstorm or sylvan library and grindstone yourself if you need to dig deeper.

Don’t underestimate ensnaring bridge in this deck. A lot of decks have a very difficult time beating it and you have the inevitability factor on your side. If you need to force a bad spell then slam a bridge do it if it’ll let you survive.
