The best offense is a good defense.
The entire deck focuses on using Assault Formation and defenders with large toughness as the win condition.
Kin-Tree Invocation
is the alternate win condition to send out a powerful spirit in addition to my walls or in place of them.
As much as I love
Wall of Glare
, I had to replace it with Wall of Omens since it was the only card that made this legacy.
CREATURES
Overgrown Battlement is a cheap mana dork that I reduced my number of lands for.
Stalwart Shield-Bearers
is just to give a toughness boost to all my defenders.
Tree of Redemption
simply has a lot of toughness, but I could also use its ability in conjunction with
Sheltering Word
to give it a large toughness.
Wall of Omens is a cheap wall that nets me a card.
Wall of Tanglecord
is cheap, colorless, and can gain reach to deal with flyers.
INSTANTS/SORCERIES
Sheltering Word
is, if I remember the rules correctly, a creature saver since it would make the target creature an invalid target for their spell and it would fizzle out. Plus I gain a lot of life.
Diabolic Tutor is only here in case I don't draw an Assault Formation, but can still be used to find another card if I already have one. Will try out
Increasing Ambition
.
Kin-Tree Invocation
is my alternative win condition to send out a powerful token to fight for or alongside my defenders.
Assault Formation is the most important card in this deck. Without it my defenders would just sit there soaking up attacks until I can zerg rush them.
Hold the Gates
gives vigilance to my defenders to keep blocking after they can attack and also, moment of silence, make use of gates. Every gate out would give an additional 1 toughness with a maximum of 12.
MAYBEBOARD
Increasing Ambition
is definitely something to consider and I might try running it instead of Diabolic Tutor since I have Overgrown Battlement to pump out lots of mana and I could probably get use out of the flashback cost. The only thing Diabolic Tutor has on it is that it costs more, but also has 1 less in its cost.
