Pir and Toothy

Draw & counters based strategies. Toothy beefs up, then either kills or gets killed to gas up the hand.

Play out the deck with engines like Inexorable Tide and Crystalline Crawler, or make splashy plays by dropping Doubling Season, Deepglow Skate, or Vorel of the Hull Clade.

Updates Add

In:

  • Vexing Puzzlebox - because it's pretty and a fun effect
  • Teferi's Puzzle Box - More wheeling! Toothy become large
  • Mystical Tutor -- mainly to find Bioshift (a win-con and savior from accidental decking) or the right piece of removal (since it's a bit shallow in this deck right now)

Out:

  • Guardian Project - we don't play that many creatures, and we make much more explosive draw plays. This never hit at the right time or moved at the right pace
  • Zameck Guildmage - Just a little too slow—we don't hit large mana until later when this guy becomes less useful. We never really hit infinite mana, and when we generate a ton of it we're usually just dropping half our deck on the field already
  • Brainstorm - this should probably go back in but the lines of play with it never felt that compelling or fun
