This deck utilizes the ultimate combo of Platinum Emperion + Madcap Experiment. I was very pleased when I saw Madcap Experiment in Kaladesh. It was at that moment that I knew what deck I would build next: Madcap Izzet Moon. Why exactly this deck? Why did I choose exactly Madcap Experiment? For all the time I've spent playing magic, I've been meaning to make good use of Platinum Emperion. I have actually tried to create more different decks with him in it. None of them really worked that well. This one, however, both functions exceptionally and is incredibly fun to play.

INDIVIDUAL CARDS Show

CREATURES Show

2x Platinum Emperion

• I chose him for this combo because he is better than the Platinum Angel. Why is he better? Simply because Platinum Angel allows you to lose life - meaning once you drop down to 0 or less (due to Madcap Experiment or anything else), all depends on her presence. She dies, you die too. Another reason is that Platinum Angel is only a 4/4 - she is more vulnerable than Platinum Emperion, and only half as strong a beater.

4x Snapcaster Mage

• Snapcaster mage is simply necessary for any control deck with blue in it. He can flashback a Lightning Bolt or one of your spell counters. He's also a decent beater, dealing two damage a turn if not taken care of.

2x Vendilion Clique

• Another brilliant control card. They are great to sweep away any threats to your Platinum Emperion or counters which can ruin your combo before Platinum Emperion comes into the fray.

ENCHANTMENTS Show

4x Blood Moon

• I believe this is the single best enchantment in modern format. Its control is impeccable. If Blood Moon enters the battlefield very early, you eventually win the game because your opponents cannot cast removal spells effectively. Unlike other decks, this one plays 4 copies of Blood Moon. This is because in this deck, it is not just an annoying addition to the decklist - it is a win condition. Other decks are generally hurt by Blood Moon, even if they play it themselves. This deck, on the other hand, profits from having it on the battlefield.

INSTANT Show

4x Lightning Bolt

• Does this really need any explanation?

4x Remand

• Remand is a very selfless card. It slows down your opponent, increasing your tempo drastically. And it does that without even compromising your card advantage! It is a highly effective spell counter to protect your Platinum Emperion.

3x Cryptic Command

• Broken if you ask me. Nonetheless, a brilliant card, offering a lot of possibilities when cast in many pressing situations. It can protect your combo, it can protect you, and it grants you some tempo, too. I play only 3 copies because the 4 copies of Blood Moon make it quite hard to get 3 blue mana each game.

2x Mana Leak

• Another very good spell counter in modern. Its brilliance lies within the fact that paying an extra 3 mana in turn two, three or four is virtually impossible.

2x Spell Pierce

• I play 2 copies of Spell Pierce in maindeck and none in sideboard because spell counters in this deck are generally responsible just to protect the combo and in the end Platinum Emperion himself from enemy threats, and a good portion of those threats will be noncreature spells.

1x Electrolyze

• One copy is great in every deck. It gives you some tempo, maybe kill a little beater or two, perhaps even hurt the opponent.

SORCERIES Show

4x Madcap Experiment

• The base card in this deck. It can combo well with any of Platinum Emperion, Platinum Angel or Lich's Mirror.

4x Serum Visions

• This is another one of those blue control staples. It is the best (playable) one drop draw with a bonus effect. Scry also helps look for Madcap Experiment.

1x Forked Bolt

• I play one copy of it because it is cheaper than Electrolyze. It can easily stop an infect deck or an early affinity threat.

1x Anger of the Gods

• Who does not like boardclearing? This is the card that represents boardclearing in my deck. It is very good against tokens and affinity, but mainly against dredge. Everybody knows that current modern meta has quite a lot of dredge in it - if we want win the tournament, we will have to stand against a few of those and Anger of the Gods will help us fight through.

LANDS Show

9x Island

• Why do I play so many Islands? Blood Moon turns nonbasic lands into Mountains and I need to get that blue mana from somewhere.

1x Mountain

• Why do I play only one Mountain? because I do not need more, as Blood Moon provides more red mana.

4x Scalding Tarn

• Almost every competitive deck needs at least 4 fetchlands to shuffle the library.

4x Steam Vents

• Blood Moon can turn this land into a Mountain after turn three, but this does not hurt me too much. At the beginning of the game, this is a great land.

4x Spirebluff Canal

• A two-color land that enters the battlefield without needing you to lose any life. Sounds good, doesn't it?

SIDEBOARD Show

2x Anger of the Gods

• More mass removal for those meta dredge decks!

1x Dispel

• A "just-in-case" card to further protect Platinum Emperion. Most of what can hurt him is either a spell counter or an instant removal spell.

1x Grim Lavamancer

• He is good for long games against control decks.

2x Izzet Staticaster

• Very good against tokens, martyr life and infect.

1x Platinum Angel

• Unfortunately, Platinum Emperion is useless against infect. This is where we have to take a step down towards the aforementioned Platinum Angel.

3x Ravenous Trap

• There are numerous ways how to stop dredge graveyard craziness. However, Relic of Progenitus kills the Madcap combo, just as well as Grafdigger´s Cage does. Ravenous Trap, at its conditional trap cost, is the best alternative.

2x Shattering Spree

• Because artifacts can cause a headache too.

1x Spell Snare

• A very good spell counter against concrete cards found in modern - Wall of Omens in white, Snapcaster Mage in blue, Dark Confidant in black, newly abused Kiln Fiend in red, Tarmogoyf in green and countless others. And ultimately, we of course cannot forget that Spell Snare can even counter this gem: Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded (watch out)!

2x Sudden Shock

• Split second is beautiful against control, but I added this card into my sideboard mostly against the relatively new deck in modern metagame: Kiln Fiend aggro.
