Disclaimer: If you have a fear of your friends leaping over the table and trying to stab you to death with their deck, this deck is not for you.
The Combo:: Jeskai Ascendancy + Spidersilk Net + Retraction Helix + Sigiled Starfish
Explanation: This is fairly self-explanatory, but briefly:
- Put a creature on the board,
- Put Jeskai Ascendancy out,
- Have a Spidersilk Net in hand or on the board,
- Cast
Retraction Helix
on one of your creatures,
- (Optional) Have Altar of the Brood out.
The longer explanation: Once the first four of the above conditions are fulfilled, you can tap your creature to return a target non-land permanent to your hand. I recommend having Spidersilk Net in your hand instead of out in play so that you can bounce the most potentially threatening permanent on the opponent's board first. If the net is already out, return it to your hand instead. Now you cast the Spidersilk Net from your hand for 0 mana. Since it is a non-creature spell, your creature is untapped by Jeskai Ascendancy and gets +1/+1 until end of turn.
The Altar of the Brood is not required to be on the board when you spring your combo for 2 reasons. If they don't have a blocker available, you can just pump your creature until its power exceeds their life total and then attack, ending the game immediately. If they do have a blocker available, you can use Jeskai Ascendancy's secondary ability and simply draw-discard until you pull an Altar of the Brood, cast it, then resume your infinite re-casts of Spidersilk Net until the opponent's entire deck is in their graveyard.
For my personal flavor, every other card in the deck outside of this combo, including the creatures, is a card designed to either scry or accelerate draw in order to propagate the combo faster.
Note: I did not include Temple lands in the mainboard because they are expensive and this deck has the Budget tag. The entire deck purchased a la carte is approximately $20. However, the Temple lands would be superior to the lifegain and tri-color lands as their scry effects increase the probability of springing the instant win condition of this deck by turn 4, hence their nod in the Maybeboard.
