Sideboard

Hi, this is your local weather broadcaster, K2Lew, and I'm here to give you an update on the forecast on spells to cast this week.

First this morning, there is a chance of it raining blood, as well as goblin, warrior, monk, thopter, and vampire tokens in the north. Later on in the afternoon, we expect a malestrom that will summon some pretty scary dragons in the south-west.

All kidding aside, this deck is a lot of fun. There was a lot of scepticism from my local playgroup while I was building it, but it turned out a lot better than I even expected. The deck works like an early psuedo-Atarka Red, in that it will gain board-presence pretty quick, and then turn into R/B dragons, swinging with a bunch of 2/1 or 3/1 tokens, and the best part is that there are so many different ways to do this.

ROUND 1: Jeskai Black, 0-2 Nothing special here. Getting stuck on 3 mana both games sucked.

ROUND 2: Jeskai Dreams, 2-1 I called it Jeskai Dreams, because it was essentially a midrange list that played all the cool interactions we all WANT to see, but don't play (Arcbond + Zada, Hedron Grinder +lifelink, etc.). Game one he beat me with no struggle, playing main board Radiant Flames. Game 2 I won by boarding in 4 Zulaport Cutthroat in against him, getting 3 on the board. Game 3 was a foot-race, as he took me to 2 on turn four with a Stormchaser Mage. Me bushwacking in for 19 the following turn sealed the game for me.

ROUND 3: Abzan Blue, DRAW I played against my pal for this one. Game one took for ever and ended with me Outnumbering his untapped Siege Cow and Bushwacking for game. Game 2 I was victim to Virulent Plague, but I got him to 2 with Zulaport and Secure the Wastes. Game 3 we only had 2 minutes left and he would have won, had it not been for me frantically chumping to get a draw.

ROUND 4: Abzan Aggro, 2-0 Better matchup than the last game since I wasn't dealing with Stubborn Denial, and she was playing Ayli, so both games were just me pressuring her by air until she sacked enough creatures for me to but the nail in the coffin with Sorin and ground creatures.

ROUND 5: B/W Control, 2-1 Game one was lame. I won, but that's just because he didn't get anything out save for Kalitas. Game two he outplayed me with a Monastery Mentor, fair and square. Game three he had a HUGE upper-hand, but playing Outpost Siege on Dragons made it where I could finally kill his Mentor and friends with my chump-blocking tokens, all while my Sea Gate Wreckage was getting me back in the game. I finished with Secure the Wastes, getting me into Top 8.
