Kraken Hatchling
is about to see standard play, mark my words. It's 0/4 body is just right for pumping Evolvers for a measly 1 Blue mana, and provides a solid target for counters, Rancors, and if not--just great blockers for fast aggro weenie decks.
This deck is proving to be very viable, able to give solution after solution. It's a counter deck, utilizing a little bit of the Evolution Simic mechanic in Gyre Sage.
But the deck doesn't have to go that way. It has a really smooth curve of creatures, with indestructible Predator Ooze, into Master Biomancer, going up to Thragtusk, which stabilizes life where you might've lost some on weak hands, and Prime Speaker Zegana gains card advantage. A new finisher that works really well is
Sapphire Drake
. Never heard of it? Yeah, me neither. But it allows all your creatures with counters in the stalled out board state (it happens a lot w/ oozes), to suddenly fly over for the kill.
My Golgari+ counters deck did all this same goodness, but with the addition of blue, we gain excellent card advantage power!
