This is a deck that I created because I wanted to create a deck to combine my love of Emrakul, the Aeons Torn and the Thopter Foundry + Sword of the Meek combo.

Why this janky pile of cards?

I've wanted to make a modern deck ever since I opened a foil Emrakul, the Aeons Torn in a Modern Masters 2015 pack. At first I saw George Colby's Thopter Polymorph decklist and I fell in love with the idea of using the Thopter Sword combo in tandem with Emrakul. But when I saw mtggoldfish do a deck tech on Pheasantry's Thopter Whir decklist , my idea completely evolved. By combining the thopter polymorph deck and the thopter whir deck, I could hopefully create a unique and interesting deck with really exciting high points.

The concept of the deck is to combine the consistent value of the thopter sword combo with the high variance and excitement of polymorphing into Emrakul. Whir of Invention gives us a consistent way to not only assemble the combo, but also allows us to have a tutorable polymorph in Proteus Staff . With this set up, there are games where we will grind out value with the combo until we can get out Time Sieve and win as well as some games where we might not even assemble the combo but sacrifice thopter foundry to itself and target the token with proteus staff on turn 4.

To explain a few of the inclusions:

  1. On top of the value they already provide, Collective Brutality , Liliana of the Veil and Thoughtseize allow us to desperation discard one of our Emrakuls if we need to for some reason.

  2. Pentad Prism works very well with Whir and gives us a way to get some of our splash colors if we need them as well.

  3. I went with fetch + shock mana base because I think that the thopter sword combo can make up for some of the life you lose to it. You could pretty easily go for a more traditional artifact mana base with Glimmervoid or Darkslick Shores if you wanted to. For a budget mana base you could probably justify painlands such as Caves of Koilos

Sideboard Cards:

  1. Anguished Unmaking gives us a nice catch-all answer to problematic permanents. It can easily deal with Stony Silence s and other sideboard answers to our deck.

  2. Batterskull is a tutorable beater that we can use as a win condition in some of our slower match ups. It can also be helpful against burn, although it is sometimes too slow for that.

  3. Battle at the Bridge gives us some creature removal & life gain if we need it.

  4. Damping Sphere should help in our tron and storm match ups.

  5. Metallic Rebuke is a very efficient counterspell for us and helps us get through some of our combo against control.

  6. Nihil Spellbomb gives us one sided graveyard hate so we don't harm the sword of the meek part of our combo.

  7. Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas gives us a grindier alternate win condition.

  8. Torpor Orb should help us answer some of the creature combo decks we might go up against

Please let me know what you think of the deck! It has been a really fun journey trying to find my way to a deck that both felt somewhat competitive while also being fun and unique.
