"PULL!" An Archer Tribal Story REDUX

Commander / EDH Archer Bird Flying RGWU Theme/Gimmick

lvl99luck

"Copied" deck

Here's the deal. This is an upgraded version of what my friends call "The Archer Deck" that can be found here: https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/pull-an-archer-tribal-story/

These are the differences between the old and the new deck.

  1. Commander. I switched the partners Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa and Ludevic, Necro-Alchemist for Kenrith, the Returned King. Simply put, Kenrith does everything. I need to give my archers haste, bam, they got it. Lacking in land drops, boom, draw one. And his last ability lets me recover from a board wipe. He also hits harder than the other two commanders, and I was finding that the deck struggled to close out games. The deck is still very much 4-colours (sans black) as black doesn't really add anything in terms of archers. It also doesn't hurt that a king conquering his enemies with archers is on-theme as all hell.

  2. Focus. The original deck had cards that forced creatures to attack. It made sense since some archers and archer-themed cards target attackers. I ended up removing those cards because 1, people just attack normally, and 2, having those cards spread the themes too thin. The main idea in the new version is to give things flying, and shoot them. Simply put, cutting the number of suites provided consistency for the deck.

This is an archer-themed deck based on an idea I got from a listener submitted deck on TheManaPool Podcast: http://themanapool.com/

The most succinct way for me to describe this deck is that it plays archers that shoot flyers. "But what if your opponents' creatures don't have flying?" Then we give those creatures flying before we shoot them out of the sky.

The Archer Suite: Brigid, Hero of Kinsbaile / Daybreak Ranger   /
Skyway Sniper / Scattershot Archer / Matsu-Tribe Sniper / Trophy Hunter / Falkenrath Exterminator / Stun Sniper / Jagged-Scar Archers / Hansk, Slayer Zealot

The Grant Flying Suite: Skygames / Wind Dancer /
Aven Mimeomancer

There are some flavour cards. Some are very effective in a creature-centric deck, such as, Nylea, Keen-Eyed, and Vivien's Arkbow. Some cards are not as effective, but I had to include for the theme. You can see this in cards with archers in the art, like Borrowing 100,000 Arrows, Runic Shot, and Shower of Arrows. Shower. Of. Arrows. That belongs in the deck.

Colour Choice: Archers typically appear in green, and white, plus, I needed blue to give creatures flying. Red was originally here to force creatures to attack, only for my archers to pick them off, but I found that that strategy wasn't necessary, and spread my resources too thin. Red is now a splash. It lets me play some decent archers, like Falkenrath Exterminator, Meria's Outrider, and Stun Sniper, as well as a creature tutor in Imperial Recruiter.

Finishers:

Titan of Littjara: A new addition that's a strong finisher. Draws me cards on a 6/6 body, and counts as an archer.

Greatbow Doyen: The one and only archer lord. Every time an archer does their thing, they also shoot a player.

Sun Titan: A classic creature. Brings back one piece of the grant flying/archer combo as it enters, and the other one when it attacks.

Mirror Entity: Rewards me for going wide, and turns everyone into an archer.

Weaknesses:

1) C'mon, it's archer tribal... it doesn't even play that many archers. The tribe does not get wide-spread support, and there is no indication it ever will.

2) It can hold down the board, creature-wise, but it has an identity issue when going up against creature-light decks.

3) Board-wipes. It's a creature deck, with a very fragile combo held together by small creatures. Ideally, the deck can hold up a Swan Song to turn a Wrath into a clay pigeon, or a Heroic Intervention, but I don't always have those in my hand.

Cards I could see myself cutting: N/A

Cards I could see myself adding:

Training Grounds: It greatly improves my commander, as well as a handful of creatures in the 99, but that might not be enough.
