I went to a draft recently, and opened up my first pack and pulled a fog bank and decided to play blue. Eventually I pulled a Master of the Pearl Trident, and 2 Merfolk of the Pearl Trident. After drafting I really enjoyed the synergy of the tribal theme, so I created a standard deck for the upcoming rotation.
In a general sense, the deck is a blue aggro with cards like Invisible Stalker Latch Seeker Master of the Pearl Trident Merfolk of the Pearl Trident. Unblockable, hexproof, and ability buffs give the deck its boost. Further boots can be arranged with Ring of Evos Isle, which can eventually create one strong unblockable creature, or many "stronger than average" creatures.
The red of the deck was introduced when I came across Nivmagus Elemental. This card is amazing. Removing early Vapor Snags for a turn two 3/4? I'll take 4. This card gains the buff from Ring of Evos Isle with a possible hexproof, along with Ring of Valkas's haste, and a +1/+1 from that as well. Over time, this creature can be a terror. The Bonfire of the Damned came along with the red splash obviously.
Along with the red splash, since the shock lands and former dual lands make it possible to run so many colors, having Rancor in an aggro deck only seemed necessary.
For removal, I have Izzet Charm and Vapor Snag. The charm is such a resourceful card, containing multiple abilities to choose from no matter what situation may be afoot. Vapor Snag should be common sense as well.
So let me know what you think, this deck was completely original and I feel like it has a lot of potential to be competitive in the new set. +1 if you like it, and if you don't then leave a comment and explain to me why you don't. Thanks, and happy magicing!
