Sideboard

Creature (3)

Planeswalker (1)

This deck is based on the powerful interaction of Purphoros, God of the Forge and token generators to deal lots of damage in a short time. I had previously seen a similar deck idea in Boros colors, but consistently surviving long enough to actually win seemed to be a big issue.

However, by fitting the idea into a USA control shell, it's possible both to survive early threats and to control the late game. Ideally, by the late game, you should be able to sit back on a couple counterspells while killing your opponent without actively having to do very much.

A few notes about card selection within the deck:

-While I tried to fit more basics into the deck, the mana base was not consistent enough to be able to satisfy some of the specific mana requirements of spells like Supreme Verdict. So, I ended up adding more gates instead. I'm hoping that the next set (Born of the Gods) completes the cycle of scry lands, so that the gates in the deck can become scry lands, which will help with consistency.

-I'm still not sure about Turn / Burn in the sideboard. I really want to replace them with Magma Jet, since those will allow me to have an extra leg up against aggro (with scry 2 letting me keep finding damage spells or lands, as needed). However, while Turn / Burn will come in against aggro, they also exist as an instant speed way to deal with other troublesome midrange/control creatures (like Stormbreath Dragon or various gods).

Updates Add

Added 1 AEtherling to the main board as an extra win condition against control and removal-heavy decks. Moved Syncopate to the sideboard, removing Jace, Memory Adept.
