"Purple Reign" - Queen Marchesa

Commander / EDH Enchantment Pillow Fort RBW (Mardu)

Coteaz

Maybeboard

Working on a Queen Marchesa deck. Calling it "Purple Reign" because I put the deck in purple sleeves and deck box since it's the color of royalty. Originally played as a token generator, pillow-fort, and slow life bleed, I have come to realize after significant play-testing that I needed to drop the token generation. The deck doesn't have enough creatures to make it really consistent. The aspects of this deck that I have enjoyed are the usage of heavy enchantments to grind out a win so I am going to push this deck towards that. Use the pillow-fort to make everyone think twice about killing me, while gaining life and bleeding theirs.

Major Changes 6/18/2017

I'm only going to list the major cards removed. As much as like Purphoros, God of the Forge, I'm no longer running enough creatures to make him worth a slot. For the same reasons both Skullclamp and Tempt with Vengeance were removed. Removed several planeswalkers as I tilt the deck towards enchantments.

Removed:

  1. Blasphemous Act
  2. Daretti, Ingenious Iconoclast
  3. Day of Judgment
  4. Elspeth, Knight-Errant
  5. Elspeth, Sun's Champion
  6. Goblin Bombardment
  7. Purphoros, God of the Forge
  8. Skullclamp
  9. Tempt with Vengeance

For the same reason, I won't list all the cards added except for my clear cut favorites after significant play testing. Generally, I want to lay down as many enchantments as possible and then board wipe. Cards like Authority of the Consuls and Blind Obedience slow them down significantly. I find most players don't play enough enchantment removal in general. If they don't play enough exile then you just keep laying down more and more while occasionally wiping the field.

Obviously cards like Austere Command and Merciless Eviction just wreck, but that's life. Even then Austere Command won't take the Gods off the board. If I have a really good board state, I like to use Legion's Initiative and exile my creatures till the combat step. Then use Jokulhaups clearing the board of everything except my enchantments and creatures which will return at the top of the combat step. With Queen Marchesa reentering the board, you will get back the monarch token if you didn't already have it. At that point, you will outdraw your opponent while bashing. With the extra draw, you will probably hit more land drops as well. Cards like Mogis, God of Slaughter do significant amount of work all on their own while the combined tax of Ghostly Prison and Sphere of Safety can make it very expensive to swing at me.

Killing with Commander damage is a real possibility with this deck. With Ethereal Armor, Squee's Embrace, and Legion's Initiative, it isn't that difficult to get Queen Marchesa to power 7 or greater.

Added:

  1. Delaying Shield
  2. Erebos, God of the Dead
  3. Ethereal Armor
  4. Gift of Immortality
  5. Jokulhaups
  6. Legion's Initiative
  7. Mogis, God of Slaughter
  8. Sigil of the Empty Throne
  9. Squee's Embrace
  10. Underworld Coinsmith

Possible Cuts:

  1. Martial Coup
  2. Outpost Siege
  3. Prophetic Prism
  4. Treasury Thrull
  5. Underworld Dreams

There are several cards that I would like to add, but as of right now this deck is fun to play and does what I want it to do. I know the lands could be better, but I have multiple decks and don't have enough copies of certain things. If its a tourney, I'll swap in better land.
