Standard Aggro BG (Golgari) Combo

Quia Mortui is "For the Dead" in Latin.

G/B "Dredge" is by no means a new archetype, but there are so many different directions you can take it. This is my version, which I've taken a few weeks brewing and changing.

The overall idea behind dredge is a simple one;

Use enablers and ramp to put lots of creatures into your graveyard, to creature huge creatures early and often!

Let's take a look at the deck! :)

-Enablers-

4x Satyr Wayfinder: This is the very best enabler in the deck. It's extremely important to keep a high creature count as almost all of our win-cons require lots of creatures in the graveyard. Back when Theros first came out a few people tried to build a deck like this, but one of the reasons it struggled was low creature density. This guy is hugely important to the deck.

4x Commune with the Gods: It finds over half of our deck. I prefer this to Grisly Salvage as it is easier on the mana, and can find Whip of Erebos. Not only does it put creatures in our graveyard it also finds important creatures like Nighthowler.

4x Nyx Weaver: Another great way to put creatures into our graveyards! Like Satyr Wayfinder this guy comes with a body. He's also the only ways to non-creature cards back from the graveyard.

4x Elvish Mystic: While this does not put creatures into our graveyard he is still VERY MUCH an enabler. He accelerates our game, and let's us make plays like turn 2 Nyx Weaver's. We're only playing 21 lands, so it's important to have as many sources of mana as possible. He also keeps our critical mass of creatures high!

-Win-Cons-

4x Nighthowler: The biggest individual threat of this deck! Not only is he a 3 mana 8/8, he also is a huge threats loaded with removal as bestow means the effectively have to kill him twice. This deck could not function without this guy

2x Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord: Like Nighthowler, but with recursion, and the ability to Fling a giant Nighthowler at an opponents face! The recursion is extremely relevant, and it's important to remember to float the mana before you sacrifice the lands.

2x Nemesis of Mortals : He's often a 10/10 for four green mana! This guy is a really solid early beater, that allows us to take advantage of our enablers as early as turn 3. While I know this is often a shoe in as a 4 of he is really nothing more than a beater, and a lackluster draw late game, so he's only a two of.

4x Lotleth Troll: In my early iterations of this deck this guy was only a two of and I soon realized the error of my way. This guy is one the biggest heavy hitters, and can win a game all by himself. The number of games I've won against Planar Cleansing control by playing a turn 3 Lotleth Troll, (With regen mana up) and nothing else for the rest of the game is incredible. One of the best underrated cards in standard.

4x Shadowborn Demon : Shriekmaw is a powerful magic card, and a 5/6 flying Shriekmaw is incredible powerful. Obviously he's supposed to come with a draw back, but putting 6 creatures into our yard is incredible simple! Another underrated gem.

1x Soul of Innistrad : I think this is the MOST powerful soul for constructed purposes. Against any deck trying to kill your stuff he literally wins the game. Activating his ability at any point (in either the graveyard or play) creates huge amount of advantage. You all ready have to kill my Nighthowler twice, how about FOUR times.

-The Rest of the Stuff-

2x Whip of Erebos: This is often our best card in a lot of match ups. Against control and mono black it's an endless stream of threats, against aggro it provides stabilizes, and against midrange it puts close games out of reach. Both abilities are hugely relevant.

1x Ultimate Price: Interaction, plain and simple! We don't require much interaction, but the ability to answer key threats like Master of Waves , Desecration Demon, and Goblin Rabblemaster is very important.

1x Golgari Charm: This card is both proactive and reactive. It wipes boards against mono red, clears a board of Elspeth tokens, and kills Master of Waves , and all his tokens. It also kills important meta cards like Underworld Connections and Courser of Kruphix. And a main deck answer to Supreme Verdict is never bad in a deck with > 50% Creatures.

That's it for the main deck, now let's look at the sideboard.

-Sideboard!-

1x Bile Blight: Removal is good, and this is good removal. Taking out multiples is very relevant against Pack Rat, and aggressive cards.

1x Ultimate Price: Removal is good and-- yeah you get the idea. This is really important in match ups like Rabble Red.

2x Dark Betrayal : The idea here is that we're slightly weak to Pack Rat, and this is a great answer to Pack Rat, while also answering every other card in mono black.

2x Golgari Charm: Best in the control and mono red match ups. Against aggro it works a double shift, of both wiping their board, and regenerating our board after a series of blocks. All three modes are relevant against control as mentioned in our main deck description.

3x Nylea's Disciple: I can safely say that our toughest match ups are anything with basic mountains, normally either Burn or Rabble Red. It provides a body to block with and gains 6-8 life.

4x Skylasher : Obviously this is here for the mono blue match, but it's also quite good against both control and aggro. Against aggro it is just a good blocker that dodges Firefist Striker , and against control EOT Skylasher untap bestow Nighthowler is one of our stronger plays.

2x Stain the Mind: One of the newest additions from M15. Against control naming Sphinx's Revelation or Supreme Verdict can leave them without effective ways to answer any of our threats. It also is good against specific fringe decks.

So that's the deck! It's a blast to play, and I've spent quite a while working on it. Plus one's and comments are more than appreciated. All suggestions are worth posting.

Thanks again.
