RAGAVAN cEDH: My first attempt at brewing a cEDH deck (Please be gentle!). Using this scrappy monkey to get in some early ramp and damage with a Transmorgrify trick to cheat out a Godo, Bandit Warlord ASAP! Used to playing in both casual and semi competitive groups, always looking for feedback and suggestions to make it even more competitive! Obvious inclusions are stuff like the faster mana rocks. Trying to explore some different wincon options! Made from cards I had on hand, waiting for some more cards in the mail!

SHOCK THE MONKEY! I really enjoy brewing around Polymorph kind of effects. And having gotten used to sacrificing a giant 4 mana jank crab, I’ve always wondered how a finer tuned deck might look that still uses the same strategies! This deck started off as a Magda, Brazen Outlaw sort of brew, and a lot of synergies still remain from that original deck. However, I was fortunate enough to have a Ragavan in my prerelease kit, and I fell in love with the monkey that may or may not be holding his groin! I think both commanders are quite fast and quite aggressive! After doing some reading and asking around, I was actually surprised as to how many of these effects are in red! With that in mind, I tried to jam all of them into the deck with the idea being that we play an aggressive early game with the monkey making treasure and ramping with the hopes of drawing into one of the payoff polymorph plans for an early godo helm. The current backup plan borrows heavily from Godo strats, with Argentum Armor offering a good catch all removal spell, though this strategy is obviously a lot slower and lackluster than the primary plan!

Why not run Good? A question that I ask myself a lot! While Godo in the command zone is more consistent, Ragavan allows for differing style of play, mainly in the form of consistent turn 1 plays. While Godo is ok keeping hands with tons of ramp and not much else, Ragavan acts like a mini ramp spell, able to make a few treasures here and there, making it easier to “count to 11” mana. Speaking of… my thought is that what we sacrifice for consistency in not running Godo, we get an improvement in speed for getting Godo Out. Godo is notorious for only having to have 11 mana then going for the win. With Ragavan, we can lower that number down to around 9 mana, which may seem inconsequential, but it allows for some even faster plays without having to necessarily go all in. The flip side to this is that we won’t always have a polymorph in hand. However, there are a surprising number of polymorph like effects in mono red, meaning we only have to ramp and draw into one to threaten an early win.

Why not run Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh

Another good question! Ragavan offers an alternative style of play not necessarily just voltron. I agree that Rograkh is a very powerful creature cheating commander. I just think that the monkey gives us a better backup plan and a source of early ramp, making it easier to go for earlier polymorph plays.

Some of the notable cards and my thinking behind them:

Possibility Storm one of my favorite anti combo cards. With Ragavan's dash cost, we can easily cast the creature from our hand, turning this into another jank polymorph effect to get godo!

Jokulhaups Testing this as an alternative wincon. A lot like Worldfire, the idea is to float all of our mana, cast it, then cast our commander for the dash cost, while using the treasure produced to cast our commander the next turn and go from there. 9 mana to simply cast this and our commander seems doable, though maybe not the most consistent.

Feedback is always welcome, as are suggestions for other possible wincon options!
