First, an anecdotal story that explains the origin of my modern Guild themes. In 2006, I had given up on Magic. The sets at the time didn't interest me; they didn't ignite my imaginative spark. Then, Dissension and GuildPact came out. I found what I had been looking for in Magic. The idea of several guilds fighting each other appealed to me. So, when I heard that Ravnica was being revisited, I couldn't wait to see what would come out! I was not disappointed in the slightest. :D
With that out of the way, let's talk about Rakdos. One of the most frightening adversaries in Ravnica, Rakdos deals in murder, treachery, and pain. I built this deck to do just that.
In your early game, you can set up some nasty creatures and enchantments.
Rakdos Cackler
,
Rakdos Shred-Freak
, and
Thrill-Kill Assassin
rounds out your early game creature base. Unleash a Cackler, and Attack! Lyzolda, the Blood Witch or an equipped
Rakdos Riteknife
can turn a failed attack into damage and a draw advantage. In the meantime, the enchantment Rain of Gore will make your opponent think twice about gaining life. Another nasty combo from the older Rakdos set is the Nettling Curse+
Pain Magnification
combo. Better than Sinister Possession, in my opinion, this combo can wreck havoc on your opponent's hand and Life total. Is there a creature you can't get around? Rakdos loves the obstinate; use Act of Treason+Tymaret, the Murder King for quick creature removal.
In your late game, you have Carnival Gladiator to harass your defensive opponent, as well as
Avatar of Discord
and
Carnival Hellsteed
. There is also a brutal combination, though pricy. Place a
Dread Slag
in your graveyard, (which is fairly easy if you've seen the card) then use
Morgue Burst
. Thats a critical 9 damage!
This deck is aggressive and wreckless; it certainly doesn't always win. However, thematically, the deck does well to synergize with itself. It has no respect for Life; not even your own. So, give yourself unto Rakdos, Master of Riots! Comments and suggestions from the tappedout.net community are always welcome in the House of Pain!
