Rashmi, Eternities Crafter

This deck has a special place in my heart because I love the theme, flavour, and aesthetic of Kaladesh, and this deck to me has all three. But what really excites me about this deck is Energy. That's right, this is a Commander deck that manages to utilize Energy counters, and utilize them well.

Rashmi, Eternities Crafter is an inventor and artificer extraordinaire on Kaladesh, to the point where she very nearly pierced the secrets of the Blind Eternities, without being a planeswalker. Naturally, those experiments require tons of energy to conduct, and that's why she seemed the perfect general for this deck. Plus, her pseudo-cascade ability is nothing to scoff at.

Therefore, the aim of this deck is twofold:

  1. Cast big-mana spells at flash speed to benefit from Rashmi's ability and cheat goodies onto the battlefield (kind of like having a flash of genius and producing some amazing invention).
  2. Hoard Energy counters and spend them to devastating effects.
Since Rashmi's pseudo-cascade ability triggers with the first spell cast each turn, not just during our own, the first part of the strategy benefits greatly from Flash-enabling pieces like Leyline of Anticipation, Alchemist's Refuge, and Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir, as well as permanents offering free casts (As Foretold), or which untap lands (Seedborn Muse, Wilderness Reclamation).

Obviously, Sensei's Divining Top is instrumental in this deck, as it allows to manipulate the top of our library to ensure we cascade into the spell we want (or else draw the card we want).

And sometimes, flashes of genius are messy and explosive, so Show and Tell, Momir Vig, Simic Visionary, Genesis Wave, and even something like Rishkar's Expertise paired with a big creature like Wurmcoil Engine can allow for some truly intense plays. To that effect, Kruphix, God of Horizons serves the double duty of letting us keep every card we draw (which Sword of War and Peace can exploit to splendid effect), as well as bank up any extra mana to help cast huge spells down the line.

While Rashmi's pseudo-cascade steadily accrues us value, the deck seeks to win by steadily accruing another resource: Energy. This portion of the strategy employs creatures like Aethertide Whale, Aethersquall Ancient, and Aetherwind Basker in order to quickly generate a ton of Energy counters (Progenitor Mimic + Aethersquall Ancient is a particularly nice combo for exponential generation). Cards like Conjurer's Closet and Panharmonicon are included to maximize the potential of Energy ETB effects. In terms of win-conditions, Aetherworks Marvel is an auto-include in order to fish out big finishers like Wurmcoil Engine easily. Finally, Aethwerwind Basker (Big Finisher #2), Electrostatic Pummeler, and Bristling Hydra + Rhonas the Indomitable are other terrific options to use up the accumulated Energy.
I've had tons of fun piloting this deck, and it's been performing extremely well, so I'm beyond happy with how it turned out! After a couple years of trying, I finally made it work!

Also, Kaladesh is a plane known for the grandeur of its inventions, and as a Magic player I've always been particularly entranced by the aesthetic of the plane. Because of this, I've decided - perhaps a little misguidedly - that I'd want to try and make this deck as aesthetically pleasing as possible, be it with foils, alternate-art cards, and, well, Inventions. The process isn't done yet, and there are some cards whose price tags make them forever out of reach, but I'm quite pleased with where it's at.

Finally, this deck is one of my pride and joys, so I hope you think it as cool as I do! :D
