Red All Out Burn

Modern Burn Mono-Red

Sideboard

This is my very own mono-red burn deck. This has gone through numerous changes and has been modified many times so kindly comment what needs to be improved thank you. Deck strategy: Deal as much damage to the opponent as possible. However be careful and watch out watch out for threats (creatures) that will do lots of damage. This is an offensive deck with your only solid permanents being the Eidolon and Mountains.

What I Play and Why

    • Rift Bolt- Mostly played for its suspend cost. It is top priority that this is to be played on Turn 1 so you can decide the next turn whether a creature needs to be dealt with or can be used on a player.
    • Lava Spike - Straight up 3 damage to the player for 1. It's straightforward really.
  • -Lightning Bolt - Best burn spell ever made.
  • -Shock- Its a convenient one drop that allows us to deal with small threats early in the game and can be used to deal damage to the opponent.
  • -Incinerate- Mostly for stopping annoying creatures from going back to the battlefield.
  • -Skullcrack - Although it can only target a player it does 3 damage and can work around life gain and damage prevention.
  • -Spark Elemental - This is in a sense a burn spell that may hit both a creature and a player. If a creature were to block it, the damage can be dealt to the player as well or it kills the creature, either way is good.
    • Hellspark Elemental- Spark's big bro, he does the same thing as spark but for 2 mana and can be used from the grave yard. Useful for those situations when there are no cards in your hand.
  • -Keldon Marauders - A great creature as it deals damage as it enters and leaves the battlefield. It can also swing in for 3 for two turns before leaving the battlefield dealing 1 damage. This card fits well with the deck's strategy.
    • Eidolon of the Great Revel- Its main role is to add to the damage you are dealing. However, this does damage to you as well so use theis guy carefully. Only 2 copies as this guy may kill you.
    • Thunderous Wrath- In my opinion the funniest top deck I can have for this kind of deck. The goal is to cast it for its miracle cost which is 1 red. 1 red for 5 damage, that's insane. Plus casting this will not cause the Eidolon to damage you as the cmc is more than 3.

What I DON'T Play and Why - Shard Volley- its a 1 drop for 3 damage yes but I have to sacrifice a mountain for it? No thanks, its like using 2 mana but you lose a land? A big no for a deck with only 20 lands.

  • Searing Blaze- Yes this can deal 3 damage to both a creature and player but only with a land drop, with this deck it is somewhat difficult to consistently keep getting land drops per turn. Another is that if your opponent is not running a creature-oriented deck this card is rendered useless.

  • Monastery Swiftspear - A very good card however, it does not fit with this kind of strategy as I intend on leaving hardly any creatures on the battlefield for a long time. I see this card better suited to an aggro deck than a burn deck.

  • Goblin Guide - Same reason with the swiftspear plus it is too expensive for my taste.

-Grim Lavamancer- A decent card as well however again it does not fit well with the deck strategy. It also has the tendency to get removed easily. Plus there are time when its ability becomes inconsistent (no more cards in grave yard)

-Vexing Devil- A Seemingly good card however it makes your opponent choose whether he stays or does 4 damage off the bat. Most of the time it is the convenience of your opponent more than your own. Example your opponent chooses to let him stay but removes him with a bolt in the next turn; a waste of mana.

Thoughts about this deck are always welcome.
